Were you bothered by the strange-looking AI art in Crimson Desert? Good news – it’s been updated and replaced with something new!
Pearl Abyss, the developer of the game, recently removed all AI-generated content in a large update released over the weekend. Players are just now confirming the change, which was noted in the full patch details.
Shortly after the release of Crimson Desert last week, players quickly noticed some artwork that appeared to be created using artificial intelligence. Several paintings within the game showed telltale signs of AI generation, including strange shapes and visual glitches.
Okay, so the developers heard our complaints loud and clear! They actually apologized publicly and said they’re swapping out those questionable assets. Apparently, they were just old stuff left over from when they were making the game, and they never meant for us to actually see them in the final version. Good to know they’re taking it seriously!

Okay, so I’ve been following this, and honestly, I’m glad the team admitted they should have been upfront about using AI. They said it was mostly in the beginning stages, and they planned to swap out those AI-generated parts before the final release. But they totally get that doesn’t make it okay they weren’t clear about it from the start. It’s good they’re owning up to it, even if it was just for the initial work.
We sincerely apologize for these oversights.”
Here are some examples of the assets in question, and how they’ve been replaced:
Crimson Desert is a massive open-world game, so the use of AI-created content didn’t really hurt its overall image.
This situation highlights how things are changing in game development. AI is now frequently used to create temporary game elements, and when developers are rushed to meet deadlines, these placeholder elements sometimes accidentally make it into the final product.
It’s encouraging to see Pearl Abyss responding quickly and effectively. They’ve stated they’re dedicated to making Crimson Desert better, and the recent changes suggest they’re making good progress towards a significantly improved game experience, and doing so quickly.
