A famous manga artist is coming back to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine this April with a brand new series, seven years after their last one finished. Shonen Jump is launching several new series this spring, and while some existing series have been cancelled to make room, the return of this well-known creator is exciting news and fans hope their new project will be just as popular.
Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of the popular series Gintama, finished that manga in 2019 after it moved from Shonen Jump to Jump GIGA for its final chapters. Now, Shueisha has announced (according to Oricon News) that Sorachi is returning to Shonen Jump with a brand new manga starting April 20th. Details about the new series are still limited, but a first look has been revealed.
Gintama Creator Returns to Shonen Jump in April 2026

The upcoming series by Hideaki Sorachi, currently known as “2nd Year Class B Hero Destroyers” (though the official English title is still unconfirmed), has just revealed its first image and hints at a school-based story. Set to launch this April, the new series will also mean the conclusion or cancellation of some existing titles in Shonen Jump to make space for it.
Fans of the creator of Gintama have a lot to look forward to! The series is celebrating 20 years of its manga and anime with new projects, and this is a great time to be a fan. This new series could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the creator’s career. Known for successfully combining humor and action, fans can expect more of the same in this latest work. While returning to Shonen Jump doesn’t guarantee success, it gives the creator a significant advantage over someone just starting out.
Gintama’s Creator Also Has a New Anime Coming to Netflix

I’m excited to see Hideaki Sorachi back in anime! He’s got a new series coming to Netflix this April. It’s based on Dandelion, actually – a story he originally wrote as a possible series for Shonen Jump. It didn’t get picked up back then, which eventually led to Gintama, but now Dandelion is finally getting its own chance to be animated!
The anime adaptation of Dandelion will begin airing on April 16th, with a total of seven episodes. While the original story was brief, the anime will include new content to expand upon it and create a fuller experience. This, along with the numerous remakes and new projects for Gintama celebrating its 20th anniversary, signals a major return for creator Sorachi.
