Supergiant Games announced that Hades 2, a critically acclaimed roguelike, will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in April 2026. This will bring the game to a wider audience and includes a major content update for existing and new players. The game blends Greek mythology with a story centered around defeating time itself, offering an addictive and engaging gameplay experience.
Players on Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2 will soon receive a major update for Hades 2, improving the overall gameplay experience on these handheld consoles. Because games like Hades 2 play so well on portable devices like the Switch 2 and Steam Deck, this update is a big win for Supergiant Games and will likely introduce the game to even more players. With Hades 2 already being considered one of the best roguelike games of 2025 and earning multiple award nominations, ensuring a polished and smooth experience is fantastic news for both newcomers and long-time fans.
Hades 2 Arrives To Consoles In April 2026 With A Variety Of New Features & Extra Content

The highly anticipated game Hades 2 is scheduled to release on April 14, 2026, and will be available on both Xbox and PlayStation. Along with the launch, all versions of the game – across all platforms – will receive updates including new content and improvements to make gameplay even smoother. While Supergiant Games hasn’t revealed all the details, a recent trailer hinted at some of the exciting changes coming to the roguelike.
This update, following a long period of development like the ones before the official release of Hades 2 in September 2025, appears to be a major one. Players have already discovered a new scene featuring Heracles in the Hot Springs, meaning there’s a new character to build relationships with. You’ll probably need Bath Salts and the Rite of Vapor-Cleansing incantation to unlock this and deepen your bonds with the game’s characters.
Initially, this feature was only available to players using the characters Dora, Eris, Hecate, Moros, Nemesis, Odysseus, and Icarus. However, it seems more characters—possibly including Heracles—might now have access. Players have also noticed changes to Frinos, the toad companion of Melinoë. In a recent trailer, Frinos appeared bright red instead of its usual green, suggesting a new way to customize Melinoë’s companions.
For instance, you might only be able to change Frinos’ appearance when you’re at the Crossroads or when it’s accompanying you as a familiar. This feature could potentially apply to all animal familiars, letting you customize different parts of their design. We don’t know yet if familiars like Raki, Toula, Hecuba, or Gale will also be customizable, but it might go beyond just changing how they look. Being able to modify a familiar’s abilities could significantly impact how you build your combat strategies.
Bonus Quality-Of-Life Changes Help Hades 2 Run Better Than Ever

The console update for Hades 2 will include several improvements to make the game run more smoothly and be easier to play. These changes could range from performance boosts to small tweaks to the game’s menus and interface, helping it perform better on PlayStation and Xbox. Because consoles and PCs handle games differently, the game’s menus will likely be redesigned, much like what happened with the console versions of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Supergiant Games may make changes to Hades 2 to improve how enjoyable it is to play again and again, especially for those who’ve already finished the story. They might add new ways to adjust the difficulty, making runs more challenging. More likely, though, they’ll focus on smaller improvements to weapons, abilities, and other game elements, making certain aspects more accessible. We can expect more dialogue, but major gameplay changes are still unknown.
Even with updates and changes, Hades 2 remains one of the best roguelike games of 2025, and players are enthusiastically recommending it. With the game now available on consoles and further improved, it’s a great time to give it a try.
