The huge success of Project Hail Mary is a good sign for science fiction fans, with several promising films on the way. One of the most anticipated is Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg’s latest take on UFOs and alien encounters. Early trailers for Disclosure Day haven’t revealed much about the plot, focusing instead on creating a mysterious and captivating mood. The footage suggests a thrilling and imaginative experience, typical of Spielberg’s work. However, it might not even be the most impressive sci-fi film from Spielberg coming out in 2026.
Warner Bros. recently released the first trailer for The End of Oak Street, the latest film by David Robert Mitchell, who directed It Follows. The trailer quickly grabbed viewers’ attention with its intriguing story: a family discovers their entire street has mysteriously moved, and they must band together to find out why. Many have noted the film’s tone feels like a throwback to classic, family-adventure movies produced by Spielberg in the 1980s.
The End of Oak Street Could Be Something Special

It’s worth noting that Steven Spielberg isn’t directly involved in The End of Oak Street, and his production company, Amblin, isn’t producing it either. When people call it a “Spielberg movie,” they’re referring to its overall feel. It strongly evokes the atmosphere of 1980s films, like the hits Amblin produced such as Poltergeist, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Back to the Future, The Goonies, and Gremlins. It makes sense that The End of Oak Street draws inspiration from those classic blockbusters, especially since J.J. Abrams – who previously made a great film paying tribute to Spielberg – is a producer on the project.
The recently released footage from The End of Oak Street strongly recalls the style of classic Spielberg films, particularly his depictions of suburban life. But the similarities go beyond just the setting. The film seems to be striving for that same feeling of wonder and mystery that defined Spielberg’s early work. The trailer’s music does a great job of hinting that something extraordinary has occurred, leaving the audience unsure whether to feel excitement, fear, or both. Spielberg is known for showing amazing events alongside the dangers they present, and The End of Oak Street appears to be following suit. With worried family members and a glimpse of a dinosaur chase, the film promises a balanced sci-fi experience for fans.
David Mitchell’s previous film, Under the Silver Lake, received mixed reactions, but his critically acclaimed horror film It Follows is why people are excited about his new project, The End of Oak Street. It Follows stood out as one of the most creative and terrifying horror movies of the 2010s, demonstrating Mitchell’s ability to refresh familiar genre tropes. Unlike many horror films that rely on simple scares, It Follows offered a thought-provoking experience, combining strong visuals with meaningful themes and substance.
Steven Spielberg’s most successful sci-fi films expertly combine exciting genre elements with deeply moving and relatable stories. It remains to be seen if The End of Oak Street can achieve the same balance, but initial reactions are positive. The film’s focus on an ordinary suburban family suggests their emotional journey will be central to the plot. Considering the director’s style, the family’s move could represent a larger, real-world issue, presenting them with a sci-fi challenge that mirrors their personal struggles. If the film lives up to its potential, it could be one of the standout sci-fi movies of 2026.
