Shikhondo: Blue Pieta details major characters

CFK and DeerFarm have revealed more details and screenshots for their upcoming side-scrolling shooter, Shikhondo: Blue Pieta. They’ve introduced the game’s main characters: Layla, a vampire hunter; Chae Woori, a new grim reaper; and Sister Maria.

■ Side-Scrolling: A Series First

The latest installment, Shikhondo: Blue Pieta, introduces a new side-scrolling format to the series. Unlike previous games which used a vertical scrolling style, this version offers a fresh take on the classic bullet hell action. More information about the game’s features will be revealed soon.

Today, we’re introducing three characters from the game: the two main heroes and a challenging boss. Yoshino Aoyama, Ikumi Hasegawa, and Sayumi Suzushiro provide the voices for these characters. Let’s take a look at each one.

■ Characters

Layla, the Vampire Hunter (voiced by Yoshino Aoyama)

Layla comes from a powerful family of wizards, with a rich history of magic. Though she currently works as a vampire hunter, she’s lived many lives. Over time, she’s been known as a wizard, a monster, a saint, the head of a secret organization, and a witch – all different roles embodied by the same person.

The Layla family isn’t about who you’re born to, but who you learn from. Instead of passing magic down through family lines, experienced wizards choose apprentices. When the apprentice is ready, a special ceremony transfers the magic, and permanently sets their appearance and physical condition. Layla went through this process twenty years ago, when she was twenty-nine, and hasn’t aged since.

She stopped practicing magic when she was seventeen, but came back to it a decade later. She’s reluctant to talk about what she did during those ten years. Now, twenty years after gaining her magical abilities, she acts with a relaxed confidence and a playful attitude, as if she’s experienced life many times over.

When she was a teenager, she began working on missions to seal away supernatural creatures, or yokai, with a fellow grim reaper named Gangrim and her teacher. Gangrim was incredibly strong and made a lasting impression on her. Now, as a vampire hunter, she prefers to use whatever tools are most effective—currently a hammer and chisel—rather than relying on any particular weapon.

Chae Woori, the Rookie Grim Reaper (voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa)

Chae Woori is a new grim reaper, only twenty-three years old, but she wasn’t always one—she used to be a typical college student.

They’d successfully sealed all the yokai that escaped from purgatory before, working together. However, that event woke up ancient, long-sleeping creatures and also caused new, shadowy beings to appear.

Okay, so I finally got back home safe and sound, finished high school, and now I’m in college. But honestly, things haven’t slowed down! Whenever I have a break, I’m still dealing with yokai stuff. It’s actually helped me meet a ton of people and groups who are also into the supernatural – I’m building up some really useful connections, which is cool.

During the sealing of the yokai, one escaped—a newly formed creature with no known name. Now, signs of its presence have surfaced overseas. Carrying a letter from Gangrim, Chae Woori sets off on a journey by plane.

Sister Maria (voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro)

Sister Maria is a challenging boss character in the game Shikhondo: Blue Pieta, and notably the first human opponent players face in the series’ history.

Unlike previous bosses in Shikhondo, which have all been monsters or mythical creatures, Maria is different – she’s a human. This choice signals that the game is aiming to explore new themes. Her story is best discovered by playing the game.

The game Shikhondo: Blue Pieta will launch on PC through Steam and Stove in the first six months of 2026. Versions for PlayStation 5, the upcoming Switch 2, and the original Switch will be released afterward.
