EastEnders’ Nicola Mitchell issues shock ultimatum to Penny Branning in BBC iPlayer release

On Tuesday’s EastEnders (March 31st, 2026), Penny Branning, played by Kitty Castledine, faced a difficult choice after someone found out she was pregnant.

I was really surprised to hear that the woman who’s pregnant might have actually conceived weeks before she and her boyfriend, Vinny Panesar, officially got together. He thinks he’s the father right now, but it’s complicated!

After Penny revealed she’d been with Harry Mitchell right before he went to rehab and suggested he might be the baby’s father, her cousin Lauren Beale advised her to face the situation honestly instead of ignoring it.

Oscar decided against getting a paternity test, which upset Lauren, and he chose to just leave the situation as it was.

Penny was caught off guard at her market stall when Vinny’s mother, Suki, and her wife, Eve, came to sincerely apologize for how Suki had been acting recently.

Penny felt bad about hiding something from Vinny, so she abruptly ended their plans to buy a shop and told Suki not to bother with the idea before hurrying off.

Suki was confused and felt something wasn’t right, so she immediately questioned Penny while Nicola Mitchell, who was going by Laura Doddington, was arriving.

Nicola cheered up Penny with mocktails, but noticed she was still worried about her recent hospital scan, even though Penny said she was fine.

Vinny thought Suki had upset Penny, so he tried even harder to win Suki’s affection. Suki, instead of speaking up, decided to stay silent.

Harry was thinking about his girlfriend Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) telling him she didn’t want to have kids, which led him to confess to Nicola about his brief relationship with Penny.

It suddenly hit me – Penny might be pregnant with Harry’s baby! I mean, all the signs were there when I thought about it. So, Nicola, well, she basically gave Penny a tough choice to make.

Either Penny did a DNA test, or Nicola would spill the beans to Vinny and his family.

Will she bow to Nicola’s demands?
