On April 16th, players will be able to experience The Day I Became a Bird, a story-driven adventure game with a charming style inspired by children’s books and animation. Developed by Hyper Luminal Games and published by Numskull Games, the game costs $19.99, £12.99, or €14.99 and will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. It’s based on a storybook created by Ingrid Chabbert and Guridi, and includes an animated short film by PASSION Animation.
According to Andrew Ruhemann, founder and CEO of PASSION Animation, the main goal of this project was to portray the feeling of love before it can be expressed with words. He explained that they aimed to build a world like a walk-in picture book, where even the smallest, most subtle emotions are as important as the major plot points.
Ingrid Chabbert, the author, shared that her inspiration for Frank’s story came from the simple but powerful desire to be truly seen by someone you love. She was deeply touched to see her story become a game, as it lets players experience those emotions firsthand—the sweetness, the discomfort, and the bravery of young love—in a way that reading alone can’t.
For $24.49 (US), £17.99 (UK), or €19.99, you can get the “Feathered Adventurer Edition.” This includes the game, the film, a digital art book, and the original soundtrack.
Here is an overview of the game, via Numskull Games:
In The Day I Became a Bird, players experience the story of Frank, a shy boy with a big heart, and his first crush on a girl named Sylvia who loves birds. This charming game takes you on a visually beautiful adventure through everyday places and fantastical worlds as Frank learns about love, overcoming shyness, and finding ways to express himself. Players will explore, collect items, and solve simple puzzles, all in an effort to get Sylvia to notice him.
Inspired by a charming storybook created by Ingrid Chabbert and Guridi, and brought to life with a beautiful animated short, this game offers a gentle and heartwarming experience. It’s designed to be a calming escape from the often fast-paced and stressful world of video games, inviting players of all ages to explore a world filled with wonder, emotion, and the simple joy of flight.
The Day I Became a Bird combines the beautiful animation and storytelling skills of Passion Animation Studios with Hyper Luminal Games’ knack for creating touching adventure games. The result is a visually stunning, hand-crafted experience that prioritizes atmosphere, emotion, and graceful movement over typical gameplay mechanics – it’s a story you experience as much as a game you play.
