After its theatrical release last year, fans of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle have been eagerly awaiting its arrival on streaming platforms. Although no streaming date has been announced yet, the film continues to generate buzz. Infinity Castle quickly became the top-grossing anime film in Japan when it premiered in July, and it has now reached another impressive achievement. The film has solidified its position as the highest-earning anime film ever, and its success is still growing.
The recent anime film, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, has proven incredibly popular in Japan, attracting over 27.34 million viewers and earning 40 billion yen – which translates to over $250 million USD. This Japanese success is almost double the film’s earnings in the United States, where it has made over $135 million USD. Globally, Infinity Castle has earned a remarkable $738 million USD, solidifying its place as the highest-grossing anime movie ever. Currently, the film’s only likely competition will come from future installments in the Demon Slayer series.
Demon Slayer’s Future
I’m so excited for the future of Demon Slayer! As a huge fan, I know Infinity Castle is the first of three movies planned to wrap up this amazing story. Right now, though, details about the next two are pretty scarce. There was a lot of talk online about them coming out in 2027 and 2029, but Crunchyroll quickly clarified that wasn’t true. Still, Ufotable has confirmed they’re working on them, which isn’t surprising given how incredibly popular Demon Slayer has become – it’s a massive hit both at the box office and in pop culture!
The story in the next two Demon Slayer films will tie up several loose ends before concluding the series. While Tanjiro’s main goal is defeating Muzan, the strongest demon, the Hashira will still face many powerful enemies. For instance, Doma won his fight in the Infinity Castle, so members of the Demon Slayer Corps must now defeat him. Plus, we’ll be introduced to new demons and see them battle for the first time.
Despite its massive popularity, the creator of Demon Slayer, Koyoharu Gotouge, hasn’t indicated any plans to continue the story. As of now, there are no confirmed sequels or spin-offs for the manga, which finished in 2020. Although new stories may not be on the horizon, Demon Slayer’s anime will undoubtedly remain beloved for years to come.
