Hollywood loves revisiting old ideas, and Netflix is no exception. Known for bringing back popular shows and movies with a fresh take – like with One Piece, Lost in Space, and the upcoming 13 Going on 30 – the streaming service is about to release a remake of a classic action thriller from over 20 years ago. If you want to watch the original before the remake arrives, you only have less than a day to stream it.
Netflix will release a new version of Man on Fire on April 30th, but if you want to watch the original 2004 film starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, you’ll need to do so before April 1st, as it’s leaving the platform. Both the movie, directed by Tony Scott, and the upcoming series with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II follow John Creasy, a former CIA agent who finds purpose protecting a young girl in Mexico City. When she’s kidnapped, he embarks on a brutal quest for revenge against those responsible.
Man on Fire Is a Brutal, High-Intensity Revenge Thriller
If you want a movie that will really grab you and not let go, I highly recommend Man on Fire. Even though it’s over two hours long, it never feels slow – the director keeps everything moving with a really energetic style, and the story itself is incredibly gripping. It’s a wild ride, but it’s not just about the action. It’s also a surprisingly touching story about the bond between Creasy and this little girl, Pita. Seeing their relationship develop actually makes Creasy’s quest for revenge feel even more powerful and heartbreaking, because it’s fueled by a deeply personal loss. Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning are amazing in it, and their chemistry is a big part of why the movie works so well – they make the whole thing feel so real.
Critics weren’t impressed with Man on Fire when it first came out, finding director Tony Scott’s style overly frantic and the violence extreme. With a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it ranks among Denzel Washington’s lowest-rated films. However, the movie has since gained a strong following and is now considered a classic, even one of Washington’s best. A remake is coming to Netflix, and previews suggest it will be just as intense and violent as the original.
Where to Stream Man on Fire After It Leaves Netflix?
All seven episodes of the Man on Fire series are now available, having been released on April 30th, which is a great time to revisit the original 2004 film. However, finding the movie to stream will soon be harder. Currently, Man on Fire is only available on Netflix, and it doesn’t look like it will be added to any other major streaming platforms in April. Once it leaves Netflix, your only options for watching online will be to rent or buy it.
