Okay, so as a huge fan of The Last of Us, I was really excited to see Neil Druckmann, the creator of the series, drop a little hint about where things might go next! He’s being super mysterious, but it definitely sounds like he hasn’t ruled out The Last of Us Part 3. Right now, Naughty Dog is working on a brand new game called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet – their first new story in over ten years! – but Druckmann’s recent comments have everyone buzzing about whether we’ll eventually get another chapter in Joel and Ellie’s story, especially since he’s already got some ideas brewing.
Neil Druckmann recently shared some old drawings from 2003 on Instagram, revealing early concepts that would eventually become The Last of Us. He also hinted at the future of the franchise, suggesting that there aren’t many more stories left to tell in The Last of Us series. While he didn’t specify what those future projects might be, Druckmann indicated that the end of the series is approaching.
I was cleaning the garage and found my original game sketches from 2003. They were for a story about a man and his adopted daughter traveling across a ruined America. It’s been an incredible experience working on this project, and I’m thankful for everything that’s happened – and for what’s still to come.
What Does This Mean for The Last of Us Part 3?
Following Druckmann’s recent comments, it’s unclear what the future holds for The Last of Us Part 3. While Season 3 of the HBO show is currently in production, any plans beyond that are uncertain. Druckmann suggests there will be further projects related to The Last of Us, but it’s unknown if a third game is among them.
Given enough time, it’s very probable that we’ll see a third The Last of Us game. Neil Druckmann has a vision for the story, and the ending of The Last of Us Part 2 left some plot threads unresolved. However, even if a The Last of Us Part 3 is made, it’s likely several years away, as the release date for Druckmann’s other project, Intergalactic, hasn’t been announced yet.
