A highly debated and often disturbing anime series is returning with a new set of three movies, and the first one has a confirmed release date. New Made in Abyss Movie Confirms 2026 Release Date
The new Made in Abyss movie, currently titled Awakening Mystery, will be released in Japan on October 23rd. There’s no news yet about when or if it will be available in other countries. This film is the first of a planned three-part series, though release dates for the sequels haven’t been announced. The creators have confirmed that the original voice actors and crew are returning for this new installment.
Masayuki Kojima, who previously directed the Made in Abyss anime series, will return to direct the new film, Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery, at Kinema Citrus. Hideyuki Kurata is writing the script, and Kazuchika Kise and Yuka Kuroda are designing the characters. The original voice actors – Mariya Ise as Reg, Miyu Tomita as Riko, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi, and Misaki Kuno as Faputa – will reprise their roles. It’s currently unknown if any new cast members will join the production for this next chapter of the story.

Since its debut in 2017, Made in Abyss has become a very popular anime. What initially drew viewers in was the show’s premise of young characters facing dangerous challenges. However, the true appeal lies in watching Riko and Reg navigate the increasingly perilous world and overcome obstacles, creating a sense of adventure as they descend further into the unknown. The series is consistently gripping and intense.
