Joseph Duggar Shares Plea In Child Molestation Case, $600,000 Bond Set

Joseph Duggar is facing his alleged crimes.

Josh Duggar, known from the show 19 Kids and Counting, appeared in court online after being brought from Arkansas to Florida. He’s been charged with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl while his family was on vacation in Panama City Beach in 2020.

At a hearing on March 31st, the judge set Joseph’s bail at $600,000, according to court records obtained by TopMob News. Joseph, 31, is also prohibited from contacting the 14-year-old victim and from being alone with any children.

Joseph’s next court appearance is set for April 20.

The reality star, facing charges of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a minor and an adult, previously submitted a written not-guilty plea through his lawyer. He also requested a jury trial, according to documents obtained by TopMob News.

Joseph’s wife, Kendra Duggar, who is the mother of their four children, was arrested on March 20th and charged with four counts each of endangering a child and unlawful imprisonment, according to records obtained by TopMob News. Joseph is also facing the same charges in Arkansas, as confirmed by the Tontitown Police Department.

Following Joseph Duggar’s arrest, several family members have shared their reactions, with his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, expressing they are “heartbroken over this entire situation.”

The Duggar family is currently prioritizing supporting their family and assisting Kendra and her children through this challenging period, a family spokesperson told Us Weekly. They are also keeping the victim in their thoughts and prayers and have asked for privacy, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers they’ve received.

TopMob News contacted representatives for the Duggars for further comment, but they haven’t received a reply yet.

Joseph’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar broke their silence in a statement on March 30.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are deeply saddened by everything that’s happening,” a family spokesperson told Us Weekly. “Their priority right now is supporting their family and being there for Kendra and her children as they go through this challenging time.

The spokesperson said the couple is thinking of the victim and asked for privacy during this difficult time. They are grateful for the support and prayers they’ve received.

Seriously, I was scrolling through social media and a friend texted me, sending a link to all the news about it. Apparently, he confessed to something awful back in 2020 – hurting a young girl. I’m just completely heartbroken and shocked, like everyone else. It’s just… devastating to hear.

Derick and Jill, who publicly shared their experiences with the family in the 2023 book Counting the Cost, stated they firmly denounce abuse.

The couple, married earlier this year, expressed their outrage over what they called the shocking behavior of Joseph, his brother.

Jason and Maddie released a statement on Instagram on March 26th, saying they were devastated and heartbroken by recent news. While personally affected, they emphasized their grief stemmed from the impact on a child, stating that someone vulnerable was harmed by inexcusable actions.

Maddie and I have always cared deeply about protecting those who are vulnerable, and that will never change,” their message continued. “The idea that someone would use their power to harass innocent people is truly disgusting.

The community requested prayers for the victim, described as courageous, and for Joseph’s family. They expressed particular sorrow for his children, who are now facing the loss of a father who should have guided them spiritually.

The attorney stated that Josh, who is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for child pornography, doesn’t communicate with his brother, Joseph, often, but wishes him well during this challenging period.

Joy-Anna shared on Instagram on March 26th that she was devastated by the recent news about her brother. She expressed her sympathy for the victim and said she’s been deeply upset and taking time to cope with the situation.

She added, “I will be taking some much-needed time with my family.”

On the March 25th episode of The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, Jeremy shared that they had a challenging week, and they were working through some difficult things while also recording the show.

Jinger, who relocated to Los Angeles with Jeremy in 2019, shared that this week has been incredibly difficult. She said her heart was broken, and expressed how deeply painful the situation is, not only for her and Jeremy, but for everyone affected. She described the pain as unimaginable and multifaceted.

“It’s incredibly difficult,” she said. “When something like this happens, all you can do is pray for strength and support, because you can’t possibly be ready for news like that.”

As a close cousin of Joseph’s, I’m absolutely devastated and furious about what happened. My heart goes out to the young victim – a child who should have been safe, cared for, and surrounded by loving, trustworthy people. It’s just heartbreaking to think about.

Amy explained she was “utterly shocked to hear about these allegations and Joseph’s arrest.”

I’ve always believed in honesty, taking responsibility for your actions, and keeping children safe, even if it meant disagreeing with my own family. Protecting children is so important that family relationships shouldn’t automatically guarantee trust or access.
