Beware – this article reveals key plot points from the first season of Best Medicine! The show has added a new character, Dr. Eden Montgomery, a fertility doctor recommended by Dr. Martin Best to Louisa Gavin, who expressed her desire to start a family. Throughout the series, Martin (Josh Charles) and Louisa (Abigail Spencer) have hinted at a potential romance. After finally sharing a kiss, Martin awkwardly distanced himself, mistakenly believing he was protecting Louisa from feeling pressured into a relationship.
To add to the challenges, Louisa has decided she wants to have a baby. Given her age and a medical condition called hemachromatosis – which causes her body to store too much iron and requires regular blood removal – Martin suggests she consult with a fertility specialist, Dr. Eden Montgomery, in Boston.
I was completely stunned when Dr. Montgomery revealed that she used to date Martin! Apparently, they were together during medical school and for a few years after. She seemed really surprised Martin sent me to her, mentioning how suddenly he left Boston. She even asked if he was still single, saying they were both married to their work, but then hinted that he never truly moved on from her. It was so strange to hear her call him ‘Marty’ – it felt like a glimpse into a past he hadn’t shared with me.
Dr. Eden Montgomery Is Played By Eliza Coupe In Best Medicine
Eliza Coupe plays Dr. Eden Montgomery on the show Best Medicine. Originally from Plymouth, New Hampshire, Coupe participated in theater throughout high school. She earned her degree from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2006.
Where You’ve Seen Eliza Coupe Before
Before landing the role in Best Medicine, Eliza Coupe appeared in numerous TV shows and movies. However, she’s most recognized for her performances as Jane Kerkovich-Williams on the ABC sitcom Happy Endings and its online spin-off, Happy Endings: Happy Rides, and as Denise Mahoney in seasons 8 and 9 of the original Scrubs series.
Coupe has appeared in several television series, including the Hulu comedy Future Man as Tiger, Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy as Preggers, and Benched on USA Network as Nina Whitley. She also had a recurring role as Hannah Wyland in the ABC drama Quantico, played Amy in the FOX sitcom Pivoting, and voiced the character Katherine in Netflix’s animated series, Haunted Hotel.

What Dr. Eden Montgomery Means For Best Medicine
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Coupe will play Dr. Montgomery in the last two episodes of Best Medicine‘s first season. She’s been described as a female version of Martin – smart and very direct – and she comes to Port Wenn for two reasons: to care for her patient, Louisa, and to try to win Martin’s affection. This creates a complicated situation, especially because Dr. Montgomery is now Louisa’s doctor and has told her that time is running out to get pregnant, putting even more pressure on Louisa and Martin’s relationship.
Martin and Louisa’s relationship has faced numerous hurdles – from Martin’s difficult personality and concerns about hurting Louisa’s ex, Sheriff Mark Mylow, to constant interference from the town. But Dr. Montgomery might be their biggest challenge yet. She’s determined to get what she wants, and her persistence could drive a wedge between Martin and Louisa, who have always had a complicated connection. It will be fascinating to see the trouble Dr. Montgomery causes in Port Wenn on Best Medicine.
