Doctor Who’s Paul McGann to reunite with key companion for a new adventure with a twist

To celebrate 30 years since he first played the part, Paul McGann will reprise his role as the Eighth Doctor in a new series of Doctor Who audio dramas, and he’ll be joined by a well-known character – you might recognize their face or voice!

Paul McGann will return to play the Doctor in a new collection called Doctor Who: Time War – Uncharted: Branches. He’ll be working again with Daphne Ashbrook, who played Dr. Grace Holloway with him in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie.

Interestingly, the actress Ashbrook won’t be playing Grace Holloway again. Instead, she’ll be playing Hieronyma Friend, a mysterious time traveler who can disguise herself as the Doctor’s former friends.

I was thrilled to see Carole Ann Ford return as Susan, a true icon of Doctor Who, alongside the ever-reliable Nicholas Briggs voicing the Daleks. This new set of adventures boasts four fresh episodes penned by a talented team – John Dorney, Alison Winter, Tim Foley, and Patrick O’Connor – and it really shows! It’s a fantastic combination of classic elements and new storytelling.

Ashbrook enjoyed working with Paul once more, praising the script’s quality and the fun of playing the antagonist to his Doctor. He jokingly added that it made him miss being friends with Paul in real life.

It’s been thirty years since we filmed the Doctor Who movie. I recently rewatched it after a long time, and I was struck by how young everyone looked!

Paul is a truly gifted actor who really enjoys working on these audio dramas. His skills perfectly complement the excellent scripts Big Finish creates for him, and that’s why his character has remained so popular. He’s had the chance to explore storylines and experiences similar to those enjoyed by other Doctors on television – it’s a fantastic opportunity, and I’m thrilled to be involved.

I’ve been completely captivated by the Time War Uncharted series! It’s been amazing following the Eighth Doctor as he journeys with his great-grandson, Alex – played brilliantly by Sonny McGann – and the skilled starship pilot, Cass (Emma Campbell-Jones). They’re discovering a wonderfully strange universe, all while trying to steer clear of a growing war between the Daleks and the Time Lords. It’s a really compelling story!

Throughout everything, he’s repeatedly met Hieronyma Friend without realizing she’s been disguised as people he knows. But that’s about to change – he’s finally going to figure out the truth.

Four new episodes featuring Paul McGann have been released: “The Only Girl in the World” written by John Dorney, “False Dawn” by Alison Winter, “Council of Susan” by Tim Foley, and “All Over” by Patrick O’Connor.

You can now pre-order ‘Doctor Who – Time War Uncharted: Branches’ from bigfinish.com for £24.99 as a digital download, or for £35.99 to get the digital download plus a special collector’s edition CD box set.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
