After the soccer player publicly apologized for alleged infidelity three years ago, the singer revealed how they managed to work through the situation and stay together.

Becky, whose full name is Rebbeca Marie Gomez, told Alex Cooper on the April 1st episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast that she ended the relationship not just to protect herself, but also because she no longer wanted to feel like she had to change who she was for someone else. She admitted she was very upset and hurt, but ultimately needed to step away from a situation where she felt pressured to be someone she wasn’t.

Becky explained that starting a new relationship with Sebastian, 33, was challenging emotionally, but worth it. She and her ex had to carefully separate and rebuild trust before she could move forward.

She found a surprising excitement in the idea that things wouldn’t return to normal. She realized it opened the door to something new, and acknowledged that both she and the person she was speaking to had grown and changed since they first met. She described it as a kind of wisdom gained through experience.

Becky explained that the key to making their relationship last was having time to heal and move forward. It wasn’t an instant fix, but eventually, they were able to work through things.

She explained that real change takes time—it’s not something that happens quickly, even over months. It requires consistent effort, learning from experiences, and a genuine willingness to grow. Ultimately, it’s the dedication from both people involved to embrace a different approach that allows true healing to begin.

Sebastian, who proposed to Becky in December 2022 after dating for six years, was accused of cheating when someone online claimed to have evidence he was unfaithful.

In March 2023, Sebastian explained on Instagram that a brief, regrettable mistake – a ten-minute lapse in judgment – led to an extortion attempt. He stated that when the person trying to extort him didn’t get their way, they created a public drama online, filled with lies and aimed at harming his partner, whom he deeply cares for.

Three years on, Becky talked about how being in the public spotlight affected how she dealt with a difficult time in her personal life.

She told Alex that she was dealing with both a personal and a public sadness, and both were incredibly difficult. However, she found it most challenging to allow herself the time and self-compassion to make a decision about how to move forward.

She continued, “Simply wanting something isn’t enough. You can desire it intensely, but that won’t guarantee success. It’s crucial to understand why you want it. If your motivation is just to prove others wrong, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons and it won’t truly fulfill you.”
