In Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock has become a major threat to Wilson Fisk, even without using his Daredevil persona. Fisk, now the mayor of New York, sees himself as the city’s ruler and is aiming for even more power. However, Daredevil is secretly organizing a resistance to challenge Kingpin, as shown in episodes 2 and 3 of the season.
I’ve been following Daredevil’s story, and it’s incredible how he’s managed to stay one step ahead of Kingpin’s task force for so long! It’s terrifying to think Kingpin knows Daredevil is actually Matt Murdock, and even considered exposing him. But honestly, it’s fascinating that Kingpin’s own sense of…complicated gratitude – remembering Matt saved his life from Bullseye – is stopping him. He’s trying to be clever, thinking he’s found the perfect way to deal with Daredevil, but little does he know, this new plan is actually making him vulnerable. I have a feeling this is where things are really going to change.
Kingpin Appeals to New York to Find Matt Murdock

Daredevil is already a fugitive, pursued by the AVTF and with citizens instructed to report any sightings of vigilantes through the Safer Streets Initiative. Kingpin cleverly manipulates public opinion by claiming Matt Murdock is a hero who has been kidnapped. This leads people to search for Matt, believing they’re rescuing him from the dangerous vigilantes who are supposedly controlling him. As a result, Matt can’t operate openly, even when he’s not in costume.
From the Kingpin’s point of view, his plan is brilliant. He only wants to capture Daredevil, and it doesn’t matter if he gets Matt Murdock or Daredevil – either one will lead to Daredevil’s defeat. Kingpin believes he’s completely invincible, but that’s where he’s wrong. He’s so sure of himself that he’s overlooked the fact that others can react to his actions, and in this case, he’s unintentionally helped Matt Murdock.
Matt Murdock Is Now A Much Greater Threat to Kingpin

In some ways, Matt Murdock posed a bigger danger to Wilson Fisk than Daredevil did. As Vanessa points out, Matt built a strong reputation as a defender of vigilantes, even before the events of Born Again Season 1, notably by defending Frank Castle, the Punisher. While his legal connections are struggling to overturn the new anti-vigilante law, Matt is simply a more effective lawyer, better at navigating the legal system. By forcing Matt into hiding, Kingpin eliminated a significant challenge to his power.
Kingpin has unintentionally created a stronger opponent in Matt. While Matt will be immediately at risk once discovered and reported to the AVTF, if he can stay hidden, he now has the opportunity to become a real threat. It’s conceivable that Matt could gather enough evidence to expose Kingpin and then publicly reveal it. Kingpin has even admitted Matt is a generally well-liked hero, which will make it easier for Matt to gain public support.
Kingpin is putting on a boxing match, seemingly just to demonstrate his power. This fight actually mirrors his conflict with Daredevil – it’s a battle of wills where they’re both trying to outmaneuver each other with strategic attacks. Right now, Kingpin seems to have the upper hand, but he’s pushing himself too hard and could be making a mistake. In fact, he might have already done so.
In the Comics, Matt Murdock Became Kingpin’s Deputy Mayor

Season 2 of Born Again draws heavily from the source material, specifically the comics where Kingpin successfully became mayor of New York City. In a surprising move, the comics had Kingpin try to control Daredevil by appointing Matt Murdock as his deputy mayor – a classic strategy of keeping rivals close. The comics cleverly showed that Kingpin saw Matt Murdock as just as dangerous as Daredevil, and it appears the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now recognizing that same dynamic.
This doesn’t automatically mean Matt Murdock will become deputy mayor. The new Daredevil: Born Again series is taking a lot of inspiration from the comics, so we should expect some similarities, but not necessarily exact copies of storylines. With only three episodes released so far, the conflict between Daredevil and Kingpin is just beginning – despite what Kingpin believes. Daredevil still has a lot of potential to influence the outcome.
