As a huge fan of Resident Evil, I’ve been loving how Capcom’s been bringing the older games back to life with these remakes, alongside the new ones they’re making. They’ve really nailed it – the remakes feel both fresh and nostalgic, totally updating the gameplay while keeping that classic Resident Evil vibe. It got me thinking, Capcom could do this with a lot of their other older series too, especially the ones that are starting to feel a bit dated. It would be awesome to see them give those games the same treatment!
Capcom has been re-releasing many of its older games for current consoles, often by bundling classic titles together in collections. The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is a good example, bringing arcade fighting games to platforms beyond older home consoles. Despite this, a lot of other classic Capcom games are hard to find and haven’t been properly updated or re-released – they deserve more than just new sequels.
5. Final Fight

Capcom’s Final Fight is a classic arcade series that debuted in 1989 and heavily influenced the side-scrolling beat ’em up genre. Over time, Capcom has kept the spirit of Final Fight alive by including its characters in other games. While characters like Mike Haggar, Guy, Hugo, Poison, and Cody have become playable fighters in games like Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom, familiar faces from Final Fight have also appeared in titles like Captain Commando.
Although characters from Final Fight appear in other games, a new Final Fight game hasn’t been released since Final Fight: Double Impact in 2010. That game was essentially a re-release of the original for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, updated with new artwork—a strategy Capcom still uses today. Given the recent success of beat-em-ups like Marvel Cosmic Invasion, River City Girls, and Streets of Rage 4, Capcom could benefit from revisiting Final Fight. Modernizing the graphics and controls could reintroduce this classic series to a new generation and remind players why these characters remain popular.
4. Onimusha

Capcom is revitalizing the Onimusha series, starting with the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This could pave the way for remakes of the original games, which were known for their intense combat and unique blend of historical settings and supernatural battles against demons. After the remastered Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny arrives in 2025, the first game, Onimusha: Warlords, might receive a complete remake similar in style to the Resident Evil remakes.
Okay, so the original Onimusha games, even with the remaster from a few years back, really deserve full remakes. Especially some of the lesser-known ones like Onimusha 3. I think Capcom could do something really cool with them. They could take a page from what they did with Resident Evil 7, changing things up but keeping the core feel. I’m thinking they should really look at Onimusha: Way of the Sword – its gameplay systems could be a perfect starting point for a modern Onimusha remake. It would build on the already awesome stuff in the series, get long-time fans excited, and totally justify making even more games beyond Way of the Sword.
3. Monster Hunter

Many longtime fans still cherish the original Monster Hunter games, and some even prefer their older style to the more recent titles like World, Rise, and Wilds. While Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate brings together a lot of classic monsters, it’s starting to show its age and could benefit from a complete remake. A remake that combines the gameplay of the early Monster Hunter games with the stunning graphics of the newer ones could be exactly what fans are hoping for.
Remaking older Monster Hunter games offers a great opportunity to update them with features that make them more enjoyable to play today. For instance, a remake of the original Monster Hunter could fix frustrating issues like long loading screens and awkward controls. This blend of familiar nostalgia and modern gameplay is what made the Resident Evil remakes so successful, and Monster Hunter’s rich history could make this approach even better.
2. Devil May Cry

The future of the Devil May Cry series is currently uncertain. Capcom hasn’t announced any new installments since the release of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition in 2020. While the series is beloved, the original Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2 haven’t aged as well as Devil May Cry 3, especially considering the HD collections that brought the first three games to modern platforms.
With Devil May Cry 4 nearing its 18th anniversary, many games in the series are ripe for remakes. Updates to the combat system, like letting Dante seamlessly switch between fighting styles – a feature already seen in recent ports on consoles like the Nintendo Switch – would be a great start. Even just enhancing the graphics and streamlining gameplay could result in fantastic remakes, highlighting the compelling stories that continue to draw in new players every year.
1. Lost Planet

The Lost Planet series, last seen in 2013 with Lost Planet 3, is a third-person shooter where players control a lone soldier battling dangerous alien creatures on a frozen planet. While sharing some similarities with Gears of War, Lost Planet offers a compelling experience with strong multiplayer and engaging single-player campaigns set on expansive maps. The series’ immersive world was most impressive in the first two games, which were the only ones created by Capcom.
This game was a major hit on the Xbox 360, defining a period when first-person shooters like Halo and Crysis were incredibly popular. Capcom should consider remaking Lost Planet now, as many similar games are currently facing challenges. Reimagining the campaigns from the first two Lost Planet games, and updating the third-person shooting mechanics with improvements seen in recent titles like Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, would be a great way to bring it back.
As a long-time fan, I’ve always been amazed by how Capcom takes a good game and just improves everything – the way it plays and how it looks. They’ve really perfected this with the Resident Evil series. And honestly, seeing them do that with Lost Planet gets me so excited! I’m hoping it could kickstart a brand new sequel – not just be because something else succeeded, but actually cause something new to happen. That would be incredible!
