Which Rides Will Be Down For Refurbishment at Universal Studios Florida in 2026? Here’s The List

Universal Orlando Resort will be temporarily closing some rides for maintenance in 2026, impacting both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Recently, they announced that Men in Black: Alien Attack and Me Ship: The Olive will also be closed for refurbishment this year.

The temporary park closures cover regular updates and one larger, year-long project. Theme parks usually plan maintenance when fewer people visit, particularly in the early months of the year.

Right now, here is what we currently know.

Closures at Universal Studios Florida

Universal Studios Florida has temporarily closed a few times in 2026 for regular maintenance and updates.

Completed closures:

  • Revenge of the Mummy
    • Closed: January 15–21, 2026
  • Hogwarts Express
    • Closed: February 9–23, 2026

Scheduled closures:

  • Men in Black: Alien Attack
    • Scheduled closure: June 1–16, 2026

Men in Black: Alien Attack is a thrilling dark ride at Universal Studios Florida. Inspired by the Men in Black movies, the ride turns guests into new MIB recruits who must protect Earth from aliens. Riders sit in vehicles with laser guns and travel through alien-filled sets, earning points by shooting at targets along the way.

This attraction combines action-packed gameplay with impressive sets and effects, and it’s been a popular part of the park since it debuted in April 2000. Any closures are usually short-term, lasting anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks.

Closures at Islands of Adventure

Islands of Adventure is currently experiencing more ride closures than usual, with a major, year-long refurbishment of the Jurassic Park River Adventure being the most notable. This extended work is expected to keep the ride unavailable for almost the entire year.

Current and ongoing closures:

  • Jurassic Park River Adventure
    • Closed: January 5–November 19 (Estimated), 2026
  • Pteranodon Flyers
    • Closed: February 27–May 14 (Estimated), 2026

Scheduled closures:

  • Me Ship, The Olive
    • Scheduled closure: April 19–25, 2026

Me Ship, The Olive is a fun play area in the Toon Lagoon section of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, perfect for young children and families. It’s built like a giant, three-story version of Popeye’s ship and has lots of things to climb, crawl, and slide on, encouraging kids to explore!

The play area is filled with fun props like ship wheels and bells, and kids can climb, slide, and explore everything around them. A really popular feature is the water cannons on the second level – children can use them to spray water at people riding Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge‑Rat Barges nearby.

Planning Considerations for Visitors

It’s a good idea to check which rides are open before you head to the park. Universal often changes its schedule, so things can sometimes be different than planned.

Temporary closures might change your plans for the day, but most attractions are usually open. You may find longer lines for the most popular rides as crowds shift throughout the day.

Ride schedules are subject to change. To get the latest information on ride availability, wait times, and park maps at Universal Orlando, download the official Universal Orlando Resort app. It provides live updates on attractions and any temporary closures.
