It’s April Fool’s Day, and DC Comics is joining the fun with another special issue! They’ve released these one-time comics for the holiday for the past few years. Last year featured an all-ape story, and the year before, a Harley Quinn comic with a…unique theme. I was hoping for something great this year, and DC delivered with the announcement of MAD About DC #1 for their 2026 April Fool’s release.
Chip Zdarsky guided the creation of MAD About DC #1, a special issue featuring a huge group of writers and artists all poking fun at DC Comics. It’s filled with hilarious parodies, spoofs, and jokes targeting everything from famous characters to popular storylines—even DC’s biggest successes like the Absolute Editions. The whole issue is impressive, but what were the funniest moments? Keep reading to discover 5 of the best spoofs that are sure to make you laugh!
5. “Absolute Cash-In”

Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, a celebrated creative team, deliver a funny and self-aware short story. It playfully pokes fun at their ‘Absolute’ universe – known for its bold and reimagined characters – with a story called ‘Absolute Cash-In’. The story begins with a dramatic rebirth of a man covered in what looks like blood, but is actually sriracha, revealing him to be the ‘Absolute Condiment King’. It’s a humorous take on the often dark and exaggerated tone of the ‘Absolute’ series, and leaves you hoping to see more of this ridiculous character.
4. “Guy vs. Spy”

For fans of the classic “Spy vs. Spy” from MAD Magazine, this story delivers! Jim Zub and Ramon Perez cleverly reimagine the premise as “Guy vs. Spy,” pitting Green Lantern Guy Gardner against the White Spy. The combination works perfectly – Guy’s hot temper clashes hilariously with the Spy’s mischievous tricks, like tickling and spraying him with paint. As a longtime fan of the original MAD strip, it was a joy to see Guy so thoroughly outsmarted by this wacky, cartoonish espionage.
3. “DCU Plans for Next Year”

Jeff Parker and Lukas Ketner’s “DCU Plans for Next Year” playfully pokes fun at the direction DC Comics has been taking. The story doesn’t hold back when satirizing recent trends like revisiting old storylines and reimagining villains. Parker and Ketner are sharp and witty in their commentary on DC, and I especially enjoyed their joke about the challenges faced by DC’s mature-readers line, Black Label. Honestly, the idea of a ‘Bat-Slap Month’ sounds pretty great, too!
2. “The Punt”

Love him or hate him, Scott Snyder has a good sense of humor, especially when it comes to Absolute Batman. In Absolute Batman #6‘s “The Punt,” Snyder and James Harren revisit the controversial scene of Batman kicking a child, but with a funny twist: Batman decides to raise the child and train him to be his first Robin! It’s a hilarious and very self-aware story, filled with small jokes, like Bruce Wayne taking a ton of supplements to stay in peak physical condition. It actually makes you wish Snyder had included more comedy throughout Absolute Batman, because this short took an already funny moment and made it even better.
1. “The Many Eras of Batman”

Matt Fraction, the writer behind many Batman stories, and artist Kagan McLeod have created a fun and insightful look at the history of the Caped Crusader in “The Many Eras of Batman.” The short explores how Batman grew from his early days into the iconic figure he is now, offering witty observations about each period of his history. Longtime fans will appreciate the numerous references to Batman’s past, while newcomers will get a quick and entertaining overview of the hero’s journey – all with a healthy dose of humor from Matt Fraction.
