How Kid Cudi Navigated Conversation With Daughter About Diddy Trial

Kid Cudi is looking back at a complicated chapter.

Almost a year after the singer of “Day ‘n’ Nite” testified against Sean “Diddy” Combs in the sex trafficking case, he discussed a conversation he had with his 16-year-old daughter, Vada Mescudi, following his testimony.

Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, recently told Kylie Jenner on his podcast, Big Bro, that he was very visible in the news due to the Diddy trial. He also shared that during that time, he realized his daughter had likely seen something about it online.

She saw what happened, and I can’t shield her from the fallout,” the 42-year-old, who co-parents the teenager with his ex, Jacqueline Munyasya, explained. “When something like that becomes public, it’s a big deal and everyone is talking about it.”

After testifying against Combs, who is currently in prison for 50 months due to convictions related to prostitution, Cudi spoke with Vada.

“I had to explain,” he said. “We had a conversation about it.”

He admitted that it was difficult to navigate these topics with Vada.

He explained that she often notices things but doesn’t mention them to him because she thinks it wouldn’t be appropriate.

Now that his daughter is growing up in the public eye, the Grammy-winning artist understands that being a parent is challenging.

He told the founder of Kylie Cosmetics that they were experiencing something very few parents get to go through. He emphasized that it all begins with parenting – raising children, teaching them right from wrong, and helping them grow into good people.

As a longtime fan, it was really difficult to hear Kid Cudi testify against Diddy. Apparently, it all stemmed from a short relationship Cudi had with Cassie Ventura, Diddy’s ex. Cudi said that back in 2011, Diddy actually called him while breaking into his house, after finding out about them. It’s just… a lot to process, especially knowing Diddy has pleaded not guilty to everything.

Let me tell you, dealing with unexpected guests can be…intense. Apparently, during a recent legal matter, the transcripts revealed a pretty startling exchange I had. Someone just casually walked in and said, ‘What’s up?’ My immediate reaction? Well, let’s just say I was very surprised to find a stranger in my home and I expressed that, rather forcefully. He then calmly responded that he was there waiting for me, which honestly, just added to the whole bizarre situation.

When Cudi got back home, he said the only people there were the police. He also claimed someone had tampered with his security cameras, confined his dog to the bathroom, and opened presents that were left on the counter.

Combs has not publicly addressed the alleged break-in.

I was really heartbroken when Cudi and Ventura split up in early 2012. From what I understand, Cudi actually testified that Diddy was the one who caused the breakup – it was a messy situation, and honestly, it felt like outside forces really drove them apart.

Ventura testified that the relationship had become too unstable, and that Sean had threatened to harm them both.

For a closer look at Combs’ federal trial, keep reading.

At the hearing on October 3, 2025, the judge sentenced him to over four years in prison—specifically, 50 months—followed by five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine.

For the first time, the musician addressed the court at his sentencing on October 3rd, offering an apology to his victims, Cassie Ventura and Jane.

Combs admitted that the trauma of domestic violence would stay with him for life. He described his behavior as appalling and deeply regrettable, attributing it to severe drug use and a lack of control. He acknowledged he needed help at the time but didn’t receive it, and stated he wasn’t trying to justify his actions.

He went on to share how the case has impacted him.

He explained that he was simply doing his best, but got carried away with pride and excess. As a result of his choices, he lost his freedom, couldn’t be there for his family – his children and mother – and lost everything he’d worked for: his businesses, his career, and his good name. Most importantly, he lost respect for himself. He feels completely broken and humbled, admitting he hates what he’s become and has been reduced to nothing.

As a longtime follower of this case, I was updated that Judge Arun Subramanian set Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sentencing for October 3, 2025. It’s also been reported that the judge denied Combs’ request for bail, and based on the court’s reasoning, it seems the judge is concerned about a history of violent behavior. It’s a tough situation, and I’m following it closely to see how it unfolds.

Following the trial, after Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges involving his former partners, Cassie and “Jane,” but convicted of transporting them for the purpose of prostitution, his attorney issued a statement regarding the outcome.

Attorney Douglas Wigdor stated on July 2nd that this legal case began when his client, Cassie Ventura, bravely filed a civil lawsuit in November 2023. While the jury didn’t find enough evidence to convict Combs of sex trafficking, Ventura’s actions allowed them to find him guilty of transporting someone for the purpose of prostitution. Wigdor emphasized that by sharing her story, Ventura has significantly impacted both the entertainment world and the pursuit of justice.

Acknowledging the charges Combs denied, Wigdor emphasized, “We firmly stand with and support our client, who demonstrated remarkable bravery throughout the proceedings.”

Wigdor also commended Ventura for her testimony, as she was one of 34 witnesses during the 29-day trial involving Combs.

He stated that she demonstrated incredible courage and shone a light on the harmful behavior of influential men, as well as the decades of unchecked misconduct. He emphasized that this case showed how urgently change is needed, and that they will continue to support survivors.

When Combs learned he was found not guilty on three of the five charges against him, he reportedly dropped to his knees in the courtroom, bowing his head as if in prayer, according to NBC News reporters present. He had faced a potential life sentence if convicted on all counts.

According to reports, Combs’ family members were in the courtroom and reacted with applause and cheers to the verdict. His lawyers embraced each other, and Combs shared a hug with his attorney, Brian Steel.

I was glued to the news on July 2nd, practically holding my breath! After days of the jury deliberating – seriously, it felt like forever – they finally reached a verdict in the trial. I couldn’t believe it when I heard they found him guilty on two counts of transporting women for prostitution. It was about his ex-girlfriends, Ventura and another woman they just called ‘Jane’. I just… I needed to know, and it finally happened. It’s a huge moment, and honestly, I’m still processing it all.

Sean Combs was acquitted of one charge of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking, despite having previously denied all accusations.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen how even the most straightforward situations can get complicated, and this recent case is a perfect example. The jury in the racketeering case let Judge Subramanian know they were really stuck – they just couldn’t agree on a verdict because everyone had such strong, differing opinions. The judge encouraged them to keep talking it through, and thankfully, they were able to reach a consensus just a few hours later when they resumed their discussions. It’s a reminder that open communication and a willingness to consider different perspectives are key to resolving any disagreement, even in a high-stakes situation.

In her closing arguments to the jury, prosecutor Christy Slavik spent nearly five hours arguing that Sean “Diddy” Combs used intimidation, violence, and control to achieve his goals.

She explained that he was incredibly persistent and wouldn’t accept rejection. He saw his world as his own personal domain and expected everyone around him to cater to his needs.

Slavik highlighted two incidents involving Sean Combs: a physical assault on his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in 2016, and an alleged assault on his then-girlfriend in 2024, who is being referred to as “Jane” during the trial.

She explained that although these two events happened eight years apart, they’re connected. They’re both parts of a larger story about Sean Combs and the criminal group he ran with his close associates.

The criminal group consistently fulfilled the defendant’s wishes using a calculated pattern of violence, intimidation, and control, she explained. The defendant believed that by relying on the silence and embarrassment of others, he could conceal his crimes, and that his celebrity, riches, and influence meant he was untouchable by the law.

Slavik claimed that during the trial, Combs benefited from a large team of assistants dedicated to fulfilling his every need, bolstering his image, and safeguarding his reputation, no matter the cost.

The prosecution asked the court for permission to change some of their arguments about the attempted arson and kidnapping charges.

Despite still being charged with racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking – including allegations of kidnapping and arson – prosecutors have clarified the charges. In a letter dated June 24th, they stated they’ve removed specific legal instructions related to attempted kidnapping in both California and New York, attempted arson under California law, and assisting with sex trafficking.

The government stated it hopes that using simpler language will make the instructions easier to follow and prevent misunderstandings.

Combs told JudgeSubramanian that he will not take the stand during his sex trafficking trial.

The judge made it clear that whether or not the music executive chose to testify, no one – not even the jurors – could assume his silence meant he was guilty.

Combs admitted he discussed with his team whether or not to testify, but insisted the final decision to not appear was his alone.

“I’ve thought this through carefully, and this is what I’ve decided,” he told the judge. “It’s my choice, and I’m standing by it.”

Diddy’s lawyer, Teny Garagos, informed the judge that both the defense and the prosecution anticipate needing around four hours each to present their closing statements.

After several days of testimony from Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Joseph Cerciello, the prosecution has finished presenting its witnesses on June 24th. The defense team for Combs has announced they will not call any witnesses of their own and will instead base their case on the evidence already presented.

During his June 23rd testimony, the jury saw explicit videos presented as evidence. These videos, as reported by NBC News journalists in the courtroom, seemed to be recordings of events referred to as “freak offs” connected to Combs.

The agent reported finding 50 explicit videos from 2021 and 2022, but the jury only viewed two of them, using headphones and individual screens.

In voicemails from June 23rd to his former chief of staff, Kristina Khorram, Sean Combs described requests he made while staying at a hotel in November 2021. These included asking for more baby oil, which he said he often used during moments of intense emotion.

He told Khorram to have them call him before starting their journey. He then added, expressing his disbelief at being released, “I can’t believe I’m out!” and instructed someone to load twenty bottles into a vehicle.

Khorram said it was fine to stay one more night at the hotel, and let them know the baby oil was right outside the door.

According to text messages, his ex-employee messaged that she was setting up an IV drip for him and Jane, which he’d previously used to recover after intense competitions, as revealed in the group chat.

She also made sure that there were Plan-B pills, an emergency contraceptive, in his nightstand.

The jury saw text messages exchanged between Combs and Ventura, where Ventura openly described the emotional and psychological impact she claimed the abuse had on her.

In March 2017, after Combs suggested they take a break from their on-again, off-again relationship (which lasted from 2007 to 2018), Ventura responded that she didn’t want a break and expressed feeling devalued and punished for standing up for herself. She told Combs that his behavior made her feel unimportant.

In another instance, she further accused her ex of physically assaulting her.

In a letter from May, Ventura wrote that she offered her partner love, but felt betrayed and hurt when he acted out. She described a painful incident where he physically harmed her, pulling her through the house. At 30 years old, she emphasized that this wasn’t a game anymore and that witnessing her own strength and resilience during the experience, even in such a difficult moment, was profoundly moving.

Brendan Paul, who worked as Sean Combs’ assistant from 2022 to 2024, testified that he bought drugs for Combs several times. These drugs included marijuana, 2C, cocaine, ketamine, and ecstasy.

Paul explained that they would text their drug dealer, who would then come to one of their houses. He said he initially connected with the dealer through texts or phone calls, and also mentioned being fired from jobs multiple times for things like forgetting a Lululemon fanny pack.

However, Paul vehemently denied being a “drug mule” for the rap mogul.

On June 18th, Judge Subramanian ended court for the day because one of the jurors was sick and couldn’t return. Court will also be closed on June 19th for the Juneteenth holiday.

The judge announced that a juror is unwell and unable to attend court. They experienced dizziness and had to return home, as reported by their partner. Because this juror is a regular member of the jury, the judge stated they won’t be able to continue with the trial today.

The judge acknowledged uncertainty about whether the juror’s sudden vertigo – causing symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and headaches – will pass quickly or become a lasting problem, and stated they would keep the situation under review.

Because of the Juneteenth holiday on June 19th, Judge Subramanian announced that the trial will continue on June 20th with a shorter schedule, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Just after Judge Subramanian removed Juror No. 6 due to inconsistencies about where they live, another juror is now potentially facing removal. This juror reportedly discussed the case with a former coworker, and the judge questioned them and asked to examine their phone, according to NBC News.

As of the end of the court session on June 16th, they still hadn’t decided whether or not to dismiss the member, and honestly, as a long-time follower, it was frustrating to leave without knowing what was going to happen.

Kanye West showed up at the New York City courthouse on June 13th to support Sean “Diddy” Combs. West was there for about half an hour and spent some time in the waiting area, but he didn’t go inside the courtroom itself. The courtroom was reserved for Combs’ family, lawyers, the press, and people who had waited in line for hours to get a seat.

Jane remembered a fight they had after she took a trip to Las Vegas with a fellow rapper and his wife.

She stated that this behavior escalated to sexual voyeurism, specifically involving Anton, a sex worker she and Combs frequently employed. During a trip, a group of people observed Anton engaging in sexual activity with a woman in a hotel room.

Jane informed Combs’ lawyer, Geragos, that the music executive was angry after he believed she went to a sexually suggestive party with another man.

On the 21st day of the Combs trial, a prosecutor named Maurene Comey told the court that the prosecution wants to dismiss one of the jurors.

She told Judge Subramanian, just before the jury came in, that they were hesitant to submit the letter because it seemed dishonest and raised significant concerns for them.

Defense lawyer Alexandra Shapiro – noting that Juror No. 6 is one of the Black jurors – requested a day or two to submit a written response and review relevant legal precedents.

Judge Subramanian stated he would postpone addressing any practical issues regarding the juror until a ruling is reached.

On June 10th, Jane and Garagos had a heated discussion where Garagos implied the witness was exchanging sexual favors for expensive gifts.

Attorney Mark Geragos reviewed text messages from November 2021 between Jane Doe and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The messages showed Doe was distressed that Combs was having sexual relations with other women. In the texts, she specifically asked Combs if he had bought one of these women a Chanel bag after they had sex.

Jane said that she didn’t get a Chanel purse from Combs, telling Garagos that she “got trauma.”

When the attorney asked what a Bottega bag was, she replied, “I’m sure you have one.”

And when Geragos asked how much the item costs, Jane asked, “How much does my body cost?”

Jane was granted a 10-minute break following the exchange.

Okay, so this is going to sound crazy, but I started really digging into Sean and his relationships around 2022, and I stumbled across this term… ‘cuckhold.’ I had never heard it before, but it just… fit. I started researching their dynamic, and honestly, it was like a lightbulb went off. It explained so much, and I realized that’s exactly what was going on. I know it sounds weird, but I just knew that’s how he felt about things.

She explained her research stemmed from wanting to better understand why people enjoyed watching their partners with other men. She said, ‘I really wanted to explore all the reasons behind that enjoyment.’

The witness suggested that Combs’ interest in casual hotel encounters, which closely resembled the experiences described by Ventura, might stem from Combs exploring his own sexuality.

She explained that some individuals might have hidden curiosities they feel embarrassed to explore personally, and instead live vicariously through a woman, allowing her to experience those things for them without their direct involvement.

Jane stated she’d given the name “Trifecta” to Paul, an escort she and Combs had hired several times, because she felt their sexual chemistry was as strong as that of successful basketball players.

“I was Kobe Bryant and Paul was Shaq [O’Neil],” she told jurors. “Combs was Michael Jordan.”

She said Paul was “really nice,” and added that if she were going to engage with sex workers, she preferred those who seemed kind and approachable.

Jane said the relationship between Combs and Khorram caused problems in her own romantic relationship with the music executive.

Jane explained that Khorram was constantly with her husband, Sean, which created problems in their marriage. She felt Khorram had strong feelings for her, and that those feelings affected how Sean behaved towards her.

On June 10th, Judge Subramanian rejected a request for a mistrial from Combs’ lawyers. They had argued that Ventura and her friend, Bryana Bongolan, falsely claimed Combs had threatened to drop Bongolan from a 17th-floor balcony.

His attorneys argued in a court document that the prosecution acted improperly by presenting false testimony, a claim they previously made when asking the judge to declare a mistrial – a request that was also rejected.

According to a recent letter, the government presented evidence in court that they either knew was false or should have known was false. This evidence concerned their claim that Mr. Combs threatened Bryana Bongolan by holding her over the balcony of Cassie Ventura’s apartment in September 2016. Because of this, the letter argues the judge should declare a mistrial to prevent an unfair outcome.

Jane alleged that the rap mogul had beaten her for hours June 2024.

Jane stated that an argument with Combs started because he was seeing a much younger woman – 25 years his junior. This argument, she said, resulted in her calling him a deeply offensive name and physically assaulting him by pushing his head into a marble countertop.

The witness testified that she hid in the main bedroom, and Sean Combs began to kick the door open, damaging it. She stated that while attempting to escape, Combs kicked her in the back of her leg, causing her to fall. Photos of the damaged door were shown as evidence.

She told the prosecutors that he grabbed her in a chokehold and lifted her off the ground, making it hard to breathe. She said she was struggling to get away from him, and was forced to stand on her tiptoes.

Jane stated she fled her house and hid behind an outside wall for about two hours, hoping he would go away, but he didn’t. She then said they went back to his house, and she curled up in the backyard, trying to shield herself while Combs reportedly attacked her.

Jane testified that the fight worsened when Combs supposedly hit her. She told the court he began punching her in the head, then kicked her, and continued to hit her while yelling.

She alleged that he told her that she was “trying to take him away from his kids and his family.”

She testified that she told him, “No, I don’t want that. Please just leave me alone, just go. Please stop.” She said he then grabbed her arm and hair, and began dragging her back towards the house, pulling her by her hair and arm.

Jane reported that after the incident, she had two raised bumps about the size of golf balls on her forehead and a black eye.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this situation closely. Apparently, Jane has shared that Homeland Security Investigations raided her home – a home Sean Combs actually covered the expenses for back in March of 2023 – along with several other properties he owns. She says agents showed up unexpectedly, and her first instinct was to immediately contact Sean’s head of security to let him know what was happening.

Let me tell you, dealing with threats like this is never okay. Back in December 2023, I heard from Jane that a very powerful person allegedly threatened to release private, intimate videos of her – and even worse, to share them with the father of her child. It’s a truly awful situation, and it highlights how important it is to protect your privacy and seek help if you’re facing something similar.

Oh my god, it’s just… heartbreaking. Apparently, when things were falling apart with Combs, he actually told Jane he had nothing to lose by releasing those videos. Can you believe the nerve? She said it was just one relentless stream of pressure calls, over and over. It’s like he was deliberately trying to break her. I’m so angry just thinking about it!

Jane texted Khorram details of the incident, and these messages were submitted as evidence. In the texts, she stated that Combs threatened to release a video showing her claiming she was severely intoxicated.

She explained she needed space from Combs to heal from the emotional pain he inflicted.

Jane told the court that Khorram assured her that Combs would not use the footage.

In her testimony, Jane stated that certain claims made in Ventura’s November 2023 lawsuit – a case that was eventually settled – closely resembled her own experiences with Combs.

She told the jury, while crying, that she nearly passed out, and may have actually fainted. She explained that three particular pages contained deeply upsetting details that mirrored her own experiences.

Jane, a participant in the “hotel nights” events, said the experience felt deeply personal, like she was witnessing her own life unfold. This prompted her to reach out to Combs directly via text message to address what had happened.

After Ventura filed her lawsuit, she wrote, “Reading this feels like reliving my own sexual trauma. It’s sickening – it details the exact same drug-fueled days and nights. You knew this would happen. You manipulated me and made me question my sanity.”

The messages expressed deep distress, stating the sender felt pressured into repeated sexual acts and invalidated in their experience of trauma. They described feeling violated and characterized the situation as sexual exploitation.

Combs then called Jane and secretly recorded their conversation, which was later presented as evidence. During the call, he reminded her that they had shared experiences and stated he needed her present at a specific time.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was absolutely reeling when I heard Jane talking! Apparently, after she read through everything Chris Ventura had – everything! – she told Combs she was literally sick to her stomach. Like, genuinely felt awful! It was so telling, you could just feel how much those documents affected her. I mean, she didn’t even realize she was being recorded, so it was totally raw and honest! It just proves everything, doesn’t it?

Jane stated that during her involvement with Combs and male escorts in events called “Hotel Nights,” she frequently used ecstasy. However, on one occasion, she chose to remain drug-free while engaging in sexual activity with three men.

She testified that she had been with several men earlier that night. She vomited, and then Sean entered and reassured her, saying, ‘You’ll feel better now. Let’s go outside.’

Jane said that at the end of the night, she felt “absolutely terrible.”
