Why Howie Mandel “Kind of” Regrets Apologizing to Kelly Ripa

Howie Mandel is having second thoughts.

After publicly apologizing to Kelly Ripa for a disagreement they had on the March 24th episode of Live With Kelly and Mark – a conversation about his appearance as he approaches age 70 – the America’s Got Talent judge is now wondering if he should have apologized at all.

Howie stated on the March 31st episode of Hot Mics With Billy Bush that he’s willing to apologize if he’s offended someone or done something wrong. However, he generally doesn’t believe in apologizing, though he does regret sharing a particular post he made.

As for why he regrets speaking out after the exchange, the answer is quite simple.

He stated he didn’t believe an apology was necessary for the joke. He agreed with the sentiment, adding that people were constantly commenting on how good he looked. He clarified it wasn’t about age – he simply felt confident in his appearance.

The former Deal or No Deal contestant explained he was trying to be funny with Kelly, and admitted, “I clearly made a joke that didn’t come across well.”

He explained that comedians often say making even one person laugh means you’ve succeeded, but it seems that’s no longer enough.

“I just can’t seem to stop reading, and it’s confusing me,” Howie confessed. “I really did try to put it down, and I even tried to apologize.”

Talking with Kelly and her husband, Mark Consuelos, made Howie realize he needs to pay more attention to his appearance.

He admitted he was confused about the situation and uncertain how long it would last. He expressed hope for a quick resolution, stating he never intended to cause problems or upset anyone.

On Kelly and Mark’s talk show, Kelly told Howie he was aging remarkably well, playfully commenting that it just didn’t seem possible.

Howie didn’t really accept the praise, explaining to the hosts that it felt like a backhanded compliment. He said, “It doesn’t mean anything – it feels like there’s a catch!”

The author of Here’s the Deal: Don’t Touch Me later apologized on Instagram, saying the conversation was intended as a joke and wasn’t meant to cause offense.

He explained in a video posted on March 29th that this gesture was specifically for Kelly Ripa, who has always been a strong supporter of his work. He’s been a guest on her show before, and they’ve even co-hosted together – they’ve known each other for years.

Howie apologized to Kelly, but with a bit of a twist. He admitted, “You were right, and I should have realized it sooner.” After some thinking, though, he added with a smile, “I have to say, I look fantastic for my age!”

I’m really glad to see Howie trying to move past his issues with Kelly! It’s always tough when celebrities clash, and honestly, I’m really interested in keeping up with all the biggest drama – so I’m definitely going to check out what other feuds are happening right now.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from left.)

He told Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay despite a personal issue they’ve been dealing with. He emphasized that the situation is private and doesn’t affect the show, and clarified it wasn’t a romantic matter.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Okay, so everyone’s talking about how my friend landed this amazing role, and honestly, I’m just SO proud! Netflix and the producers really went through everyone imaginable, it wasn’t like I pushed them in or anything. They genuinely earned it – they were just the best fit, totally! And seriously, people are saying I played dirty or something, like I sabotaged anyone else? That’s just not true. My friend got it on their own merit, I swear!

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that actor Danny Masterson, known from “That ’70s Show,” was the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a very rude and unpleasant person.

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Oh my gosh, I remember when Sharon talked about this on Larry King! Apparently, back in 2014 when Ashton was on The Talk, he was SO annoyed when she accidentally messed up his name. She said he had a total attitude about it! I’ve rewatched that clip a million times, and you can totally see it, honestly. It was five years ago, but I still think about it!

She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this business?’ She said she responded by telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I will completely overwhelm you.’ She added, ‘You have no idea who you’re talking to, young man.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, posted on August 23rd, Brittany thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she now enjoys a feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure once declined to pose for a photo with her at a red carpet event. Soon after, Cameron Bure apologized publicly, saying she unintentionally hurt Siwa’s feelings as a child and expressing her regret for not taking the picture. She said, “I feel crummy, JoJo, I’m so sorry.”

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday movies, she said it wouldn’t, explaining that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, responded to the actress’ comment on Instagram, calling it “rude and hurtful to many people.”

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without giving proper credit. Olivia responded with a simple, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! DM me for details! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji].”

While on the show Watch What Happens Live, the Happy Days actor explained why he and the Forrest Gump star didn’t get along while filming the 1989 movie Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, told me to go home – that I had everything I needed, he said.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Anyone who watched The Hills likely remembers that famous line from Lauren, spoken at the start of season three. The drama between them began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt, and it escalated when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and her then-boyfriend, Jason Wahler, alleging she’d made a sex tape.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out in 2017 after the release date for Fast & Furious 9 was delayed until April 2020. Tyrese voiced his frustrations with Dwayne on Instagram. Coincidentally, the same day, a Fast & Furious spin-off film featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced for 2019. The following month, Tyrese even said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson remained involved.

Tyrese recently discussed the long-standing disagreement with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that he still hasn’t spoken directly to Johnson, though they plan to. He did, however, talk to one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations on behalf of others connected to the franchise, saying it was unprofessional and a mistake he takes responsibility for. He explained he was the only one who spoke out, and that was his fault.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were famously feuding for years, with some believing the conflict even fueled Taylor’s song “Bad Blood.” The disagreement, which supposedly began over a dancer and rival tours, ended when Katy sent Taylor an olive branch as a peace offering before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared on Instagram that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, successfully dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and made some pointed comments about her co-star.

During a September 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall’s statement to Piers Morgan that they had only ever been colleagues, not friends.

She said she was just devastated. They had talked about it all week, and she was really bothered because her memory of what happened was completely different.

It’s definitely sad, but I believe what really connects us is the unique experience we all shared. It started as a job, but over the years it became something personal because it took up so much of our lives. I’m hoping that those years of creating something special, and the connection people felt with it, will ultimately be more important than any recent disagreements. It was a real privilege to be a part of that.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously said that her being called the best live act was ridiculous, questioning how lip-syncing could be considered a live performance. He even jokingly suggested that performers who lip-sync during paid concerts should face severe consequences.

The actress, formerly on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to not be considered for an Emmy Award. She explained that she didn’t think her storylines that season were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine’s choice in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and predictable. “I’ve learned to trust people’s actions,” Rhimes explained. “If someone consistently behaves a certain way, pay attention – it’s a valuable lesson I always remember.”

Oh my gosh, I still can’t believe it! It was the moment from New York Fashion Week – when Nicki and Cardi just went at it at that Harper’s Bazaar party. Everyone was talking about it! And then, a month later, Cardi finally told us what actually started it all. I was glued to every interview, trying to understand everything! It was insane!

Honestly, it’s been really frustrating. Cardi B told W magazine that this other artist has been constantly coming for me lately. We actually talked it out twice before, and I thought we were good, but she just wouldn’t let it go. It’s disappointing, you know?

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had seemingly liked, and then quickly unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s skills as a mother – something Nicki denies doing.

Okay, so everyone thinks I’m crazy, but I was this close to making a fortune with a Bruno Mars tour! Seriously, millions! But I put it all on hold for Kulture, my baby girl, and I don’t regret a thing. I’m a really good mom, and that’s what matters most. It’s easy for people who don’t have kids to judge, but let me tell you, I’m not gonna stumble upon another artist like Bruno at the grocery store or just walking around town! It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and I wasn’t missing it, no matter what anyone says.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 following the release of Kanye’s song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.

Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for this action, and Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

The rumored rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez began in 2003 during a German television interview. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey famously responded, “I don’t know her.”
