5 Best Anime for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Fans While Waiting for Season 3

The second season of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes ended with a two-year jump forward in the story. While many expect a third season, it hasn’t been officially announced. There’s still plenty of material from the manga to cover, and the series remains incredibly popular, so a third season is likely. However, even if it’s greenlit, fans might have to wait at least a year for new episodes. With the main My Hero Academia series also finishing up – although a special episode will be available on Crunchyroll in May – viewers are wondering what they’ll watch next.

If you enjoyed Vigilantes with its action and thrills, you’ll likely want more superhero stories focused on street-level conflicts and hidden identities. While many shonen anime deliver on action, finding those specific elements can be tricky. Luckily, there are some excellent series that fit the bill for Vigilantes fans. And if you’re simply missing the world, revisiting the best episodes of My Hero Academia is always a good option. However, after finishing the main series, these anime are the strongest recommendations.

5) One-Punch Man

While One-Punch Man doesn’t maintain the same quality after its first season, it’s still worth watching. The initial 12 episodes are fantastic, and even later seasons have their strong moments. If you enjoy superhero anime like My Hero Academia or Vigilantes, this is a great pick – it has plenty of action, humor, and a look at a society of heroes. Saitama, the main character, is even more powerful than Koichi from Vigilantes, and he battles truly massive threats. If you’re let down by the seasons following the first, the original manga is always available.

4) Kaiju No. 8

If you’re looking for a shonen anime with a bit more maturity and an unlikely hero, I’d recommend checking out Kaiju No. 8. It’s set in a world constantly threatened by giant monsters, and follows Kafka Hibino as he joins the team responsible for defending everyone. What really struck me was that Kafka is in his 30s when the story starts – a really nice change from the usual teenage hero! If you enjoyed Vigilantes and wanted something different, this might be for you. Like Koichi, Kafka has to really push himself to succeed because he doesn’t start with natural talent. Plus, the series balances some surprisingly dark moments with a good dose of humor, which I think Vigilantes fans will appreciate.

3) Tiger & Bunny

If you enjoyed My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, you’ll likely appreciate Tiger & Bunny. This anime offers a unique take on the superhero genre by imagining a world where heroes are sponsored by companies and their crime-fighting is broadcast as reality TV. It playfully comments on superhero tropes while still celebrating them. The corporate-backed hero system mirrors the ranking system in My Hero Academia, and the focus on flawed, underdog characters will feel familiar to Vigilantes fans. Like the MHA spinoff, Tiger & Bunny prioritizes character development and tells more intimate, smaller-scale stories.

2) Spy x Family

One of the things that makes My Hero Academia: Vigilantes enjoyable is its mix of everyday life and exciting crime-fighting, and Spy x Family does something similar. While Spy x Family has plenty of action tied to a bigger story, it also focuses on the lives of its characters – who, like those in Vigilantes, feel like a makeshift family. This balance allows the series to effectively blend humor with more serious themes. Spy x Family also adds the suspense of characters hiding their true identities, a concept present in Vigilantes but not explored as thoroughly.

1) Bungo Stray Dogs

If you enjoyed the vigilante aspects of the My Hero Academia spinoff series, you might also like Bungo Stray Dogs. While not strictly about vigilantes, it focuses on an agency that tackles crimes beyond the scope of regular law enforcement, similar to Vigilantes. The show features characters who use unique methods to protect people, offers plenty of exciting action thanks to its supernatural elements, and boasts compelling, well-developed characters. Plus, like My Hero Academia, it’s produced by Studio Bones, known for its high-quality animation and storytelling.
