The Spring 2026 anime season has begun, and Netflix is offering some great new content for fans. While Crunchyroll usually gets most of the newest shows, Netflix provides a unique and interesting experience each month. Even if the number of new anime isn’t huge, there’s always something exciting to watch. We already know what’s coming in April, and May looks to be another fantastic month with a first glimpse at upcoming series.
Netflix Anime announced a lineup of shows coming to Netflix this month and in May. Among them is Horimiya, a popular romantic comedy anime that first aired in 2021. Although a specific date hasn’t been announced, it’s anticipated to be available in May 2026. The series was released in two parts, with the second part, released in 2023, including scenes that weren’t in the original anime adaptation.
What Is Horimiya About?

I remember when the anime adaptation of this popular romantic comedy finally came out – it had been ten years since the manga first appeared! Because the manga already had so many fans, expectations were really high. Initially, though, the anime felt rushed. It tried to fit over 130 manga chapters into just 13 episodes, and a lot of fans were disappointed. Thankfully, the studio, CloverWorks, later released a follow-up called Horimiya: Piece to finish the story and include scenes that didn’t make it into the first season.
Even though the anime’s timing and order of events sometimes feel a little messy, it’s still a very enjoyable watch. It’s a sweet mix of school life, comedy, and romance, and it also realistically portrays the challenges and self-doubt that characters face – both the main couple and their friends. Kyoko Hori seems like she has it all – great grades and a popular image – but she deliberately keeps everyone at arm’s length. She avoids spending time with classmates after school and secretly handles all the housework and childcare because her parents are often away for work.
Kyoko’s double life is exposed when her classmate, Izumi Miyamura, brings his injured brother home and immediately recognizes her. She’s shocked to see the quiet boy from school has a completely different appearance outside of class. As Kyoko tries to hide her two worlds, she discovers Miyamura is also dealing with his own issues. They continue to help each other in secret, growing closer in the process. While Netflix recently announced the series would be available on their platform, it has already been streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Prime Video for some time.
