10 Marvel Heroes the Avengers Can’t Stand

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always thought the Avengers are the best team they’ve got. They bring together all the big guns to tackle threats that would wipe out any single hero. What’s always struck me is how, even though the public in the Marvel universe can be pretty quick to turn on heroes, the Avengers consistently stay popular. They really are the top tier, the most respected heroes, and it feels like both the general public and other heroes genuinely love them. But, even with all that love, it’s interesting to remember that not every member always gets along with each other!

The Avengers are famous heroes, but they’re still people – with flaws and preferences, just like everyone else. While they try to get along with everyone, there are certain heroes they clash with, even some who used to be on the team. Here are ten Marvel heroes who don’t quite see eye-to-eye with the Avengers, proving that even the most powerful teams have their disagreements.

10) Wolverine

Wolverine is incredibly skilled at what he does, which has made him a hugely popular superhero. However, he can be difficult and often clashes with others, leading many heroes to dislike him. He avoided joining the Avengers for a long time due to his personality, but eventually became a member. Though he did form friendships with his teammates, they were frequently frustrated by him. He has a way of irritating people, and while the Avengers appreciate his help, they don’t always enjoy being around him.

9) Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a popular hero, but many other heroes find him a bit much to handle. Peter Parker is known for talking constantly and making jokes, and not everyone appreciates it. While the Avengers value his fighting skills – he’s one of the best – some of the team’s core members find his constant chatter and quips irritating and aren’t afraid to say so.

8) Red Hulk

Calling the Red Hulk a hero is generous, but General Thunderbolt Ross isn’t a typical villain. Initially, when he first transformed, he was incredibly destructive, but he later joined the Avengers, even fighting alongside them against threats like the Hood and his Infinity Gauntlet. Since then, he’s continued to work for the government, maintaining a strained relationship with the Avengers. Ross believes in serving his country above all else, and sees the Avengers as being unwilling to make tough decisions. This unwavering loyalty to the government often clashes with the team’s values, leading to frequent conflicts.

7) Ares

The Civil War event deeply divided the Marvel heroes, creating two Avengers groups: one publicly registered and one operating in secret. When Thor died and Hercules blamed the team for Captain America’s death, the registered Avengers, known as the Mighty Avengers, needed a powerful ally. They recruited Ares, the Greek God of War, hoping his strength would help. While Ares was undeniably powerful, his harsh and distant personality made him difficult to work with. He continued working with the Avengers even after Norman Osborn took control of the superhero organization, but even Osborn’s Dark Avengers disliked him. Ares was ultimately killed by the Void after discovering Osborn had been deceiving him, and the Avengers have never invited him to rejoin the team.

6) Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock first became well-known in the 1970s, alongside the rise of the cosmic side of Marvel Comics thanks to writer and artist Jim Starlin. Though he initially appeared in Fantastic Four #66, he didn’t often team up with the Avengers. His stories usually involved conflicts with powerful beings like Thanos, the High Evolutionary, and the Magus. He once asked the Avengers for help fighting Thanos when Thanos obtained the Cosmic Cube, which led to Warlock being trapped inside the Soul Gem. He reappeared during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, but his actions put the Earth’s heroes through a brutal fight to defeat Thanos. Ever since, the Avengers have been wary of Warlock, as he consistently uses them to achieve his own goals, treating them as pawns in a larger game.

5) Professor X

The Avengers and X-Men have a long history of conflict, stemming from their differing goals. While they often need to team up to face larger threats, their relationship is usually tense. Professor X, despite being part of the secretive Illuminati, never truly connected with the Avengers and often viewed them with disdain. His increasing willingness to act as a villain has further damaged their connection. This became especially clear during the Krakoa era, when Xavier acted domineeringly, alienating both the X-Men and the Avengers, who are now largely disillusioned with him.

4) Cyclops

Cyclops is often considered the leader of the mutants, much like Captain America is for the Avengers, but he doesn’t get along well with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. He’s clashed with the Avengers numerous times while leading the X-Men, and he generally doesn’t trust them, believing they don’t care about mutants. While he’s recently become more friendly, it’s largely due to his long-standing friendship with Carol Danvers, who is now a powerful member of the Avengers. Most of the Avengers still aren’t happy to see Scott Summers arrive.

3) Namor

Namor and the Avengers have a history of conflict, even though he’s joined their team on several occasions. The root of the problem is Namor’s arrogant and self-centered personality – he’s a king with an enormous ego. He’s also repeatedly attacked the human world, so the Avengers are always wary of him when he’s not fighting alongside them. This creates lasting tension between the Sub-Mariner and Earth’s heroes, and it’s a rivalry that will likely never be resolved.

2) Deadpool

For years, Spider-Man was known as the most irritating hero at Marvel. But that changed when Deadpool decided to become a hero himself. Deep down, Wade Wilson is a good person who just wants to fit in, but he struggles with mental health issues. He uses humor to cope with his pain, which can make him difficult to be around. He’s a bit like an energetic puppy – lovable and cute, but also chaotic and prone to mischief. This often frustrates the Avengers, who find him exhausting to deal with.

1) The Hulk

The Hulk is incredibly powerful and one of the original Avengers, but he’s always been a difficult teammate. Early on, he clashed with the Avengers and briefly left after a battle where he was being controlled against his will. Since then, his relationship with the team has been rocky – he’s joined several times, but often ends up fighting alongside them. While the Avengers feel for Bruce Banner and the struggles he faces with the Hulk, they’re hesitant to fully trust him, fearing his unpredictable rage could jeopardize the team.
