Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered details more characters, field and battle systems

AQUAPLUS has revealed fresh details and images for their upcoming turn-based RPG, Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered. The update showcases characters like Shunrai, Raiko, Ashta, and Nava, and provides a look at how the game’s world exploration and battles will work.

Here are the details:

■ Characters

Shunrai (voiced by Yuuki Kuwahara)

Mother of Raiko and Mirai, as well as Mikazuchi (by adoption).

She looks so young, you’d never guess she had grownup children.

Raiko (voiced by Ryoutaro Okiayu)

A Pillar General also known as Raiko the Sage.

He is Mikazuchi’s older brother, although the two of them are very different.

Raiko is a coolheaded strategist who always tries to see the bigger picture.

Ashta (voiced by Miho Okasaki)

A young girl from Arva Shulan.

She’s shorter than her younger sister, but is the more rational of the two.

Ashta and Nava are currently in Yamato on a secret mission from the Shantuura.

Nava (voiced by Maki Hanagiri)

A young girl from Arva Shulan.

She’s taller than her older sister, but is the more childlike of the two.

Ashta and Nava are currently in Yamato on a secret mission from the Shantuura.

■ System

● In the Field

Symbol Encounters

As you explore, you’ll encounter various monsters and enemies. Unlike the last game where simply attacking started a battle with an advantage, this time you’ll need to sneak up and attack from behind to gain the upper hand.

Woptors

Traveling by woptor is much quicker than walking. Plus, if you meet specific requirements, you can instantly defeat monsters while you’re riding one.

Fast Travel

The last game limited fast travel to specific locations called Recollection Shrines. Now, you can fast travel whenever and wherever you want. Explore the open world or venture into dungeons, and you’ll be able to instantly return to previously visited spots.

Area Conquest

The game world is split into zones that you capture by defeating enemies. Some zones also require you to beat especially strong bosses called Area Rulers to fully conquer them.

After capturing a territory, you can instantly defeat enemies with a special area attack. You’ll get the same experience points and loot as if you’d defeated them in a regular fight, which is a fast way to gain levels or gather resources.

● Battle

Action Ring

The turn order in battle is displayed on the Action Ring, located in the upper-left corner of the screen. Characters move around the ring clockwise, and each one gets their turn when they reach a specific spot.

A character’s Speed stat controls how quickly they move during a match. Rings nearer the center of the arena are smaller, meaning characters positioned on those rings will act more frequently.

Characters can move closer to the center of the battle by either lowering an enemy’s morale or by using the ‘Move Inward’ command when in Overzeal mode.

Halu

Halu isn’t just there to help Shunya; he’s a capable fighter too! You can bring him into battle by swapping him with another member of your team.

You’ll see Halu’s health (Shield) and action points (EP) in the top-right corner of the screen. Halu is tough, so he can keep fighting even when his Shield is empty. But if his Shield is completely broken, he needs to recharge before you can use him again – you’ll have to wait until it’s fully restored.

I’m really excited that I can upgrade Halu at the Merchant! It’s awesome that I can boost his stats, and even better that I can teach him new skills or make his existing ones even stronger. It really lets me customize him to fit my playstyle!

ABL

Halu offers many helpful features, and some have been updated recently. Using these features requires meeting specific requirements and spending Photon Capsules.

—Example: Dress Up – Effect: Allows you to equip one additional accessory. Capsules Needed: 2.

Halu’s ATF Program

Halu now has access to ATF, or Armored Trance Form.

How your character performs changes based on the body type you choose. Do you want a well-rounded character, or one that focuses on quick, powerful attacks? Try different options to find what works best for each challenge!

The game Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered will be released in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Switch on May 28th. It will also be available worldwide on PC through Steam on the same date.
