Over the last year, South Park has been in the headlines for both its content and some issues with how the show is made. Now, there’s some positive news for fans: after finishing season 28, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone plan to release a new season every year going forward. But the latest good news isn’t just about the future of the show; it also looks back at South Park‘s history.
Tubi is becoming a significant force in the streaming world, and it’s not just because it offers movies and TV shows without a subscription fee. Recently, Tubi has added a lot of popular Cartoon Network shows and several classic Looney Tunes cartoons. Now, they’ve also included the first South Park movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, to their growing library. Although it’s the only South Park content on Tubi right now, this movie could be the start of more episodes featuring Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny becoming available on the free streaming platform. The Future of South Park
As we discussed before, the twenty-eighth season of South Park finished airing late last year, but the show is far from over. A deal made with Paramount last summer earned Stone and Parker’s production company, Park County, an impressive $1.5 billion. In return, Paramount/Skydance will receive around forty new episodes, which will stream exclusively on Paramount+. While the deal doesn’t include a movie – as evidenced by its announcement on Tubi – the studio remains confident in the future of this long-running animated series.
We don’t know yet what storylines future seasons of South Park will explore. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have often finished seasons very close to the airdate, sometimes even completing episodes on the day they premiere. While season twenty-nine doesn’t have a release date yet, it’s expected sometime in 2026 due to their contract with Paramount. The potential merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. could also impact the show and its setting in the fictional Colorado town.
