Selena Gomez Playfully Addresses Clone Conspiracy Theory

It ain’t Selena Gomez. Or is it?

When rumors spread online claiming singer Selena Gomez had been replaced by a clone, she playfully addressed the speculation.

In an Instagram skit posted by Micky Gordon on April 1st, Selena approaches the reception desk at Rare Beauty headquarters and asks, “Is my new assistant here? She’s starting today.”

When she realized her new employee had already arrived, she sat down with them to go over the tasks she needed to complete that day.

Mickey started explaining that they first laid the foundation, and then someone mentioned creating a clone. He wasn’t sure about that part and thought it could be overlooked.

Selena recently posted a playful video responding to online rumors that she’s been using a look-alike. Some fans have noticed differences in her appearance and behavior, leading to speculation. She previously acknowledged these concerns, specifically addressing comments about a change in her voice.

I’ve been asked about this before,” Selena explained in December. “There’s no good reason, but sometimes I just don’t feel like talking about it. Basically, things come up. I occasionally experience swelling in my throat, and that’s all there is to it.”

Selena Gomez has previously explained that her health challenges stem from her ongoing struggles with lupus and bipolar disorder.

In a 2021 interview with Elle, she shared that despite facing serious health challenges – including lupus, a kidney transplant, chemotherapy, and a mental health condition – as well as very public relationship struggles, she somehow managed to persevere. She admitted these experiences were incredibly difficult and, frankly, could have overwhelmed her.

Selena, who married Benny Blanco in November, is always mindful of how much her openness has helped people.

Looking back, whenever I faced a challenge, my first thought was always, ‘What’s next? What else will I have to overcome?’ Knowing I could help others was what motivated me to keep going. Honestly, there were times I wasn’t sure I was strong enough, and I worried I might have harmed myself.

During the 2010s, people noticed Taylor Swift often wore high-waisted pants, which led to some funny online theories – one even claimed she was an alien without a belly button!

Taylor even addressed the reason she kept her navel out of the spotlight.

In a 2014 interview with Lucky magazine, she revealed she intentionally keeps her belly button hidden from the public. She likes the idea of it remaining a mystery, and no one has ever seen it in photos or during her appearances. She even hinted she might have a piercing, and playfully suggested she’d get a large tattoo near it, knowing it would likely remain unseen.

After photos of the singer and her friends in bikinis surfaced from a 2015 vacation, she decided to share her own swimsuit photos on Instagram.

Taylor Swift recalled a situation from 2015 where paparazzi took pictures of her and her friends in bikinis. She realized the photos would likely be sold for a profit, so she decided to take her own, better photos. As she explained on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show, the goal was to diminish the value of the paparazzi’s photos by offering higher-quality alternatives.

Avril Lavigne responded to rumors circulating online claiming she passed away in the early 2000s and was replaced by a look-alike named Melissa. The theory suggests Melissa was brought in to appear at public events because Avril was tired and needed a substitute.

Avril Lavigne said on the May 2024 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast that she finds it amusing how people have such different reactions to her appearance. Some people tell her she hasn’t aged at all, while others believe she’s been replaced by a look-alike – a conspiracy theory she’s aware of.

After famously revealing she was expecting her first child, Blue Ivy, during a performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, rumors began circulating that Beyoncé used a surrogate or wore a prosthetic belly. She and Jay-Z later welcomed twins, Rumi and Sir.

She described the situation as ‘just crazy,’ not harmful, in a 2012 interview with People, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. She also wondered where such an idea had originated.

Months ago, some viewers noticed Beyoncé’s baby bump seemed smaller during a TV interview in Australia. Beyoncé quickly dismissed the claims as untrue through her representative, calling them “stupid, ridiculous, and false.”

The Academy Award-winning actress responded to comments that her husband, Adam Shulman, bears a striking resemblance to the 16th-century playwright William Shakespeare—whose wife also happened to be named Anne Hathaway. This has led many fans to jokingly suggest that Shakespeare has been reborn.

“I’d love for it to be true,” Anne Hathaway said on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023, “but even if it isn’t, that’s still pretty awesome.”

The singer of “Last Friday Night,” born in 1984, shared her opinion on a theory claiming that the Colorado woman—born in 1990 and killed in 1996—didn’t die as reported, but instead lived on to become a famous musician.

On a February 2025 Instagram post of the theory, Katy simply commented, “wait am i.”

Stevie Wonder, who was born early and lost his sight due to a condition affecting premature babies’ eye development, recently clarified a long-held rumor. During a concert in the U.K. in July 2025, he confirmed that he is, in fact, unable to see.

Stevie addressed recent rumors about his personal life in a fan-captured video. He explained, ‘The truth is, I was born blind.’

Despite being a Grammy winner, he views his blindness as a positive thing, explaining that it’s given him a unique perspective. He says it allows him to perceive the world with genuine understanding, seeing people for who they truly are on the inside, beyond their physical appearance or background. He focuses on their character, not their color.
