5 Most Underrated Xbox 360 Games Ever

The Xbox 360 was Microsoft’s most popular gaming console, and it’s not hard to understand why. It was available for a long time and had a huge selection of over 2,000 games, including many great titles. While some games became fan favorites, others were overlooked. We’ve searched through older games and found five fantastic Xbox 360 titles that didn’t get the recognition they deserved. Though some of these games were later released on other platforms, their original Xbox 360 versions were particularly noteworthy and deserve more appreciation.

1) The Darkness

Released in 2007, The Darkness is a first-person shooter game based on the popular comic book series from Top Cow Productions. The game is already a solid FPS, but the story is greatly enhanced by its source material, creating a rich and engaging experience throughout. Its unique gameplay, which blends demonic powers into the action, is exceptionally well-executed, and the game was so well-received that a sequel was released in 2012. While praised for its storytelling, it didn’t achieve massive sales on the Xbox 360.

2) Eternal Sonata

Role-playing games are full of hidden treasures, and one often overlooked title is Eternal Sonata. Released in 2007 for the Xbox 360, this game takes place in a stunning, dreamlike world born from the fading thoughts of Frédéric Chopin as he battled tuberculosis in 1849. The game’s beauty is deeply inspired by Chopin’s life and music, which are woven into its unique battle system and special features, creating a truly memorable experience accompanied by many of his most famous compositions.

3) Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

It’s unusual to think of a Spider-Man game as hidden gem, but that’s exactly what 2008’s Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is. The game had a complicated development, with different teams creating versions for various consoles. The version for Xbox 360 stands out with its open-world design and freedom of choice. Despite a compelling story, strong characters, and fun gameplay, it didn’t receive the praise it deserved. To make things worse, Web of Shadows was later removed from digital stores due to licensing problems, meaning it’s now difficult to play.

4) Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Released in 2010, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is an action-adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic future 150 years from now. Inspired by the classic novel Journey to the West, the game follows a dangerous quest to safely guide a young girl home after a devastating crash. Players navigate a world still patrolled by war machines, overcoming obstacles with a mix of platforming and puzzle-solving. Despite positive reviews, Enslaved didn’t sell well and remains a hidden gem. Unfortunately, its financial underperformance meant plans for a sequel were cancelled, as it was a well-received game that deserved a continuation.

5) Dark Sector

Released in 2008, Dark Sector is a unique third-person shooter that borrows story ideas from other popular games. You play as a CIA operative infected with a virus that lets him create and wield a special glaive weapon. While the game looks fantastic and features intense action and combat similar to Gears of War, it wasn’t a major success and never got a sequel. However, some fans see Warframe (2013) as a game that carries on the spirit of Dark Sector.
