Star Wars’ New TV Show Already Confirmed for Season 2 Before It’s Even Released

Fans can soon enjoy Star Wars back on the big screen this summer with the new film, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Beyond that, there’s a lot to look forward to on television in 2026. We’re expecting the second season of Ahsoka to arrive this year, and a brand new Star Wars animated series, Maul – Shadow Lord, will premiere on April 6th. Currently, only one season of Maul – Shadow Lord, consisting of 10 episodes, has been announced, leaving fans wondering what’s next for the character.

As a Star Wars fan, I’ve got some great news! Darth Maul isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Lucasfilm just announced that Maul – Shadow Lord has been picked up for a second season! Right now, that’s all we know – Season 2 is officially happening, but details are still under wraps. Still, it’s fantastic to see Maul continuing to be a major player in the Star Wars universe.

Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 Confirms Star Wars Isn’t Abandoning TV Despite Disney Changes

The announcement of Season 2 for Maul – Shadow Lord is happening at a key moment. It shows Disney and Lucasfilm are optimistic about the show’s popularity, especially as Star Wars seems to be focusing more on theatrical films again. Besides The Mandalorian & Grogu, a new movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, is planned for May 2027, and Lucasfilm hinted at several other films at a recent event in Japan. Currently, only Season 2 of Ahsoka is confirmed beyond that, leaving the future of live-action Star Wars TV series uncertain.

The future of live-action Star Wars shows beyond Ahsoka is uncertain. Disney reportedly told Andor creator Tony Gilroy that streaming isn’t a financially viable path forward, suggesting the previous rapid growth of streaming services has slowed. While Disney isn’t likely to completely stop streaming, it seems they’ll be much more careful about what they produce. They’re likely to focus on projects with strong potential and control production costs. Animated Star Wars shows, like The Bad Batch and The Clone Wars, have always been successful on Disney+, so continuing Maul – Shadow Lord makes sense. This suggests a shift for live-action Star Wars back towards theatrical releases.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m thrilled to hear that Maul – Shadow Lord isn’t going to be a limited series! The idea of really diving into Maul’s life after The Phantom Menace, watching him rebuild his criminal empire in the galactic underworld, is incredibly exciting. It’s amazing to think that Maul, who really became a fan favorite thanks to the animated shows, is finally getting the spotlight he deserves. This gives the creators a chance to show us a side of him we’ve never seen before – his weaknesses, his inner struggles, and what truly drives his quest for revenge. Honestly, if it had ended after just one season, it would have felt rushed and incomplete. Now, they can really take their time and give this story the depth it deserves.

It will be fascinating to see where Season 2 of Shadow Lord takes the story. The first season seems to begin shortly after the events of the prequel Star Wars films, during the early days of the Empire. Since Solo: A Star Wars Story shows Maul leading the Crimson Dawn syndicate around 10 years before the Battle of Yavin, the series has a lot of freedom with its timeline. Season 2 could jump forward in time, continuing Qi’ra’s story from the end of Solo. Alternatively, Lucasfilm might focus on the relationship between Maul and his apprentice, Devon Izara, which is a key part of Season 1.
