Batman will rise from the shadows soon.
Several Batman films and related projects are currently in the works. Three live-action movies are taking shape: Robert Pattinson will return for the sequel to the 2022 hit, The Batman – Part II, which is starting production soon. Another film, The Brave and the Bold, will relaunch Batman as part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe, and a separate movie will center on the Batman villain, Clayface.
DC has several Gotham City projects in the works, including a couple of animated movies. One is Dynamic Duo, which will follow Batman’s former sidekicks, Dick Grayson (who later becomes Nightwing) and Jason Todd (who famously dies and returns as Red Hood in the comics). While Dynamic Duo isn’t scheduled for release until 2028, another animated Batman film is coming out this year.
DC’s upcoming Batman movie, Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, will have its first public showing at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this June. While a wide release date hasn’t been announced yet, festival attendees will be able to see the film between June 21st and 27th.
The animated DC movie, Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, was revealed on October 10, 2025, at New York Comic-Con. It’s the first of four films planned to adapt a famous Batman storyline from DC Comics. Though Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises borrowed ideas from the Knightfall story, the new movie, coming in 2026, will more closely follow the original comic book version.
Keeping in line with that, the official Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall synopsis spotlights Bane’s role as the Batman movie’s main villain. The character will free “Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum,” which in turn leads to the Dark Knight being “pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.” Based on that description, DC fans can expect an intense Batman movie.
The first part of Batman: Knightfall, titled Knightfall, is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams – both well-known names to fans of DC animation and comics. Wamester has directed several animated DC movies, including the entire Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. Adams is a popular DC Comics writer, currently working on The Flash and Green Lantern series.
I’m a big fan of DC animated films, and I was excited to see that Benjamin Adams wrote both Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons and Batman: Soul of the Dragon. I just learned at Annecy that Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall runs for an hour and 18 minutes. As of right now, though, we haven’t heard anything about when the next three Batman movies in the series will be coming out after Part 1.
