A premiere date for a new Batman movie has been announced.
In October 2025, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment revealed plans to create animated films inspired by the Batman: Knightfall storyline. Originally published in 1993 and 1994, Knightfall is a classic Batman tale told across three separate story arcs.
As a huge Batman fan, I always think back to the iconic scene where Bane actually breaks Batman’s back – it’s just brutal and unforgettable. It’s pretty amazing how much Christopher Nolan drew from that original comic book moment when he made The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012. He really brought that same sense of physical and emotional impact to the screen.
After that, Jean-Paul Valley, who goes by the name Azrael, takes over as Batman. But Azrael quickly becomes known for his brutal methods, and Bruce Wayne has to fight to regain his identity as the Dark Knight once he recovers from his injuries.
When is the premiere date for the new Batman movie?
According to Variety, the first Batman: Knightfall movie will have its world premiere at the Annecy Animation Festival in France, taking place from June 21st to 27th.
Directed by Jeff Wamester, the movie kicks off a new animated series based on a famous and well-loved storyline from the Batman comics.
While Warner Bros. Animation and DC haven’t announced a specific date, ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1’ will probably become available on a streaming service soon. It’s currently unclear how many ‘Knightfall’ movies will be released, but considering the original comic book was divided into three parts – Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd – three movies seem likely.
According to Variety, the upcoming Annecy Festival will kick off with a special screening of “Batman: Knightfall.” This event will celebrate beloved characters, honor animation legends, and showcase popular anime series.
