Please be aware that the following contains spoilers for the Coronation Street episode that aired on Friday, April 3rd, 2026. The episode is currently available to watch on ITVX and YouTube.
On Friday’s episode of Coronation Street, Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) faced a significant problem with her plans.
The ITV soap recently revealed a surprising family connection: Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker), the landlord of the Rovers Return, is the long-lost son of the late Jim McDonald (Charlie Lawson). Years ago, Jim had a short-term relationship with Ben’s mother, Maggie.
This revelation also establishes that Ben and his friend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) are actually half-brothers.
Ben has always thought Alan Driscoll (played by Aidan O’Callaghan) was his real father. Viewers also learned in a previous episode that Maggie was involved in Alan’s death.
On Friday’s episode, Maggie tried to reach her grandson, Will Driscoll (played by Lucas Hodgson-Wale), after he was mistreated by his teacher, Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon). Despite Maggie’s efforts, Will, who seemed to be under Megan’s influence, wouldn’t confide in her, though she almost got him to open up.

However, Ben cut off Maggie as she tried to reach Will, and a fierce argument quickly erupted between them.
Okay, so Maggie really let Ben have it. She was furious, claiming he’s the reason Will clams up and won’t share his feelings. But it didn’t stop there – she also squarely blamed Ben for not shielding his son from Megan’s influence. It was a pretty harsh confrontation, honestly, with Maggie laying a lot of responsibility at his feet.
Ben, overcome with anger, shockingly told Maggie he sometimes wished she had been the one who died instead of his father, Alan.
Ben called Alan a good man, but Maggie disagreed, pointing out she knew him much better and had a different perspective.
Maggie then exclaimed: “And here you are, taking his side over mine, your own flesh and blood!”

This suggests Alan isn’t Ben’s biological brother, which immediately caught Ben’s attention. Maggie quickly tried to clarify, explaining she simply meant Alan was deceased while she was still alive, and then she abruptly left.
Near the end of the show, a disheartened Ben talked to Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) about their argument. Eva believed Maggie was simply teasing him and reassured him that they would get through it as a family.
As Ben’s son, Ollie, and Steve’s daughter, Amy, develop feelings for each other without knowing they’re cousins, will their relationship reveal their family connection?
Coronation Street continues on Easter Sunday on ITV1, ITVX and YouTube.
