Sylvester Stallone’s Escape Plan Trilogy Is Now Available on Pluto TV

Great news for fans! The popular Escape Plan action movie trilogy is now available to watch for free on Pluto TV.

On April 1st, all three Escape Plan movies starring Sylvester Stallone were added to the platform. This includes the original Escape Plan from 2013, the sequel Escape Plan 2: Hades (2018), and Escape Plan: The Extractors (2019). In each film, Stallone plays Ray Breslin, a security expert who tests the strength of high-security prisons by pretending to be a prisoner and finding weaknesses.

Escape Plan is the strongest film in the series. It stars Sylvester Stallone alongside 50 Cent, Amy Ryan, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story follows Stallone’s character as he’s sent to ‘The Tomb,’ a supposedly inescapable, top-security prison. After his attempt to expose the prison’s weaknesses fails, he must team up with other inmates to break out in a dangerous and elaborate escape plan.

The original Escape Plan movie is unique in the series because it’s the only one that was released in North American theaters. It earned over $137 million globally on a budget of more than $54 million, with most of that revenue coming from international audiences.

Despite being released over ten years ago, the first movie in the series received mixed reviews. It currently has a 50% negative rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences only slightly preferred it, giving it a 55% approval rating based on over 50,000 votes. Sadly, this lukewarm response was the best the entire trilogy would achieve.

Escape Plan’s Sequels Couldn’t Compare to the Original’s Story

Escape Plan 2 featured Sylvester Stallone’s character embarking on a rescue mission to save a teammate from HADES, a highly secure, remote prison. However, the movie’s plot felt too similar to the first Escape Plan and was generally considered a failure. Critics and audiences overwhelmingly disliked it, as evidenced by its low scores: 7% on Rotten Tomatoes and a dismal 14% audience approval. Many consider it one of Stallone’s weakest films.

The third film in the series, titled The Extractors, follows Breslin and his team as they attempt to rescue a kidnapped young girl, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. However, the story – they end up trapped in a secret, off-the-books prison – wasn’t enough to capture viewers’ attention. The Extractors didn’t receive enough positive reviews to earn a score on Rotten Tomatoes, and audience reviews are very low, with only 13% approval from over 250 users.

Although it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any new Escape Plan movies in the near future, the three films remain a great choice for a weekend marathon, especially for fans. And now that all three are available to stream for free on Pluto TV, there’s no cost to enjoy them.

You can now watch all three Escape Plan movies—Escape Plan, Escape Plan 2: Hades, and Escape Plan: The Extractors—on Pluto TV for free.
