I just watched the new developer diary for Control 2, and it’s really exciting! They’re talking about how they’re improving the gameplay, and it sounds like they’re taking everything we loved about the first game and making it even better. I’m really hyped to see what they’ve come up with!
You can watch the video here:
Remedy’s goal with the Control series has always been to explore what a role-playing game made by them would look like. They’re really leaning into this with Resonant, offering extensive skill trees and a more flexible design that lets players truly customize and develop their character, Dylan Faden.
Remedy says the team working on Resonant is their largest ever, letting them create a more detailed game with a wider variety of weapons, supernatural powers, and complex gameplay mechanics.
Since the game’s open environments don’t allow for traditional, contained combat spaces, Remedy needs to give players good reasons to engage enemies. They’re achieving this by designing combat and movement that are both engaging and offer a lot of different options.
You can use the Reach ability to quickly escape dangerous situations, and even gain a high ground advantage to attack enemies from afar before rejoining the fight.
The enemies you’ll face have become more diverse. The Hiss and the Mold now come in different forms and sizes, meaning you’ll need to adapt your fighting style to overcome them.
The video shows a lot of promising details, but the main takeaway is that Resonant appears to offer a more engaging and varied gameplay experience compared to the previous game.
