With Daniel Craig finishing his time as James Bond in No Time to Die five years ago, everyone is wondering who will be the next 007. While many fans have suggested actors, reports indicate the filmmakers are looking for someone younger for the next film, Bond 26. This likely rules out popular choices like Henry Cavill, who, at 42, might be considered too old for the role, despite having the looks and skills for the part. Though he may not be driving the Aston Martin, there could still be opportunities for Cavill to join the James Bond universe in some capacity.
In a recent interview with Heat Magazine (reported by X user @nature_dweller), Henry Cavill discussed his past attempts to become James Bond. He auditioned for Casino Royale but didn’t get the role, which ultimately went to Daniel Craig. Cavill clarified he wasn’t offered the part and simply wasn’t the right fit at the time. He admitted any actor would want to play Bond, but at 42, he feels he might be too old to start the role now. He expressed strong interest in playing a Bond villain instead, believing it would be a compelling character to portray.
Henry Cavill Would Be a Great James Bond Villain

When Henry Cavill auditioned for Casino Royale, he was considered too young to play James Bond. Now, it seems he’s aged out of the role. Director Denis Villeneuve and his team are reportedly looking for a British actor in his late 20s or early 30s for the next Bond film. This makes sense, as Amazon wants the movie to launch a long-running series, and they’ll likely need the actor to star in several films – similar to Pierce Brosnan who did four, and Daniel Craig who appeared in five.
Playing a villain in a James Bond film would be a good fit for Henry Cavill. Most Bond villains aren’t in multiple movies, so he likely wouldn’t need a long-term contract. This would let him experience the Bond universe without committing to a series, allowing him to pursue other projects. Many iconic Bond villains, like Javier Bardem’s character in Skyfall, made a huge impact in just one film, and Cavill could add to that impressive history.
Henry Cavill is best known as Superman, but he’s proven he could easily play a villain, particularly in a spy movie. His role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout as CIA assassin August Walker was a perfect example – he started as an ally to Ethan Hunt, then revealed a surprising twist. Cavill was a convincingly intimidating opponent to Hunt and clearly handled the film’s demanding physical scenes, including the famous bathroom fight. His work with Guy Ritchie has only strengthened the idea that he has what it takes to be a compelling Bond villain.
It will be fascinating to see who Villeneuve chooses as the villain for the next James Bond film. While casting James Bond himself is the priority, the supporting characters are also very important. A weak villain or Bond girl could really hurt the film and be a disappointing start to a new chapter for the franchise. Henry Cavill would be a great addition to the cast if the role is a good fit, and hopefully he’ll get the chance to play a villain. If not this film, maybe he could appear in a future installment.
