I was so excited to see a remastered version of this PS2 game drop on the PlayStation Store last month! And wow, the fans agree it’s amazing – it’s currently sitting at a 99/10 user review score! It’s clearly hitting everyone right in the nostalgia, bringing back all the feels from 2003. If you want to jump back in time and experience this classic again, it’s $24.99. Honestly, for a game that gives you 12-18 hours of gameplay, that’s a really good deal!
Crystal Dynamics is famous for the Tomb Raider games, especially on the PlayStation 2. However, many players may not remember that they were also creating the Legacy of Kain series around the same time. Last month, Legacy of Kain: Defiance received a remastered version and was released on the PlayStation Store and other digital platforms. The original game received scores of 70-75 on Metacritic, and this remaster has earned a very similar 70-77. Back in 2003, Legacy of Kain had a dedicated and passionate fanbase, and that enthusiasm hasn’t faded. The remaster currently boasts almost perfect user reviews on the PlayStation Store and is one of the top-rated PS5 games available digitally.
A 23-Year-Old Classic PS2 Game
The Legacy of Kain series began in 1996 with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, a game originally released exclusively for PlayStation 1. It was created through a collaboration between Silicon Knights and Crystal Dynamics, but Crystal Dynamics eventually gained full control of the franchise after a legal dispute. They then released Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver in 1999, Soul Reaver 2 in 2001, Blood Omen 2 in 2002, and finally concluded the five-game series in 2003 with Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which was available on PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
Man, it’s been awesome seeing the Legacy of Kain series come back! First, they remastered Soul Reaver 1 & 2, and now Defiance got the same treatment. But the best part? They just dropped a brand new game, Legacy of Kain: Ascendance! It’s a perfect time to jump in and experience the whole series.
