The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sends Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach on an adventure to brand new worlds within the Nintendo movie universe, introducing them to both helpful friends and challenging enemies. With the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, it’s clear that the film aims to broaden the cast of characters in Nintendo’s expanding cinematic world.
I was already hooked after the first Super Mario Bros. Movie with Peaches, Bowser, and Donkey Kong, but the sequel is really throwing down the gauntlet for Nintendo fans like me! This time around, Mario and Luigi team up with Fox McCloud, Yoshi, and even Rosalina – and get this, R.O.B. is in the mix too! Honestly, seeing all these characters together has me convinced: they’re building towards a full-blown Super Smash Bros. crossover movie, and I am so ready for it!
I’m really excited about the possibilities after The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but it sounds like Smash Bros. isn’t the only spin-off we might be getting. They’ve hinted at another big movie sequel, though honestly, I have a feeling it won’t be exactly what fans are hoping for.
Nintendo’s Star Fox Anime Is What Fans Really Deserve

Upon arriving at the Gateway Galaxy, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Yoshi encounter Fox McCloud, the leader of the Star Fox team. They ask Fox to fly them across the galaxy on a rescue mission to save Princess Rosalina from Bowser Jr. Before agreeing, Fox shares his history. As he does, the movie’s animation style dramatically changes to anime, showing the Star Fox team – Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare – and their exciting spaceship battles defending their home planet, Corneria.
It’s a short, funny scene, but it felt genuinely impactful to those who saw it! Now, we’re really hoping someone makes an anime based on Star Fox, even though it’s unlikely Nintendo will ever greenlight it.
Anime is hugely popular right now, comparable to live-action video game adaptations. Its influence extends beyond Japan, with anime-inspired shows like Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai winning awards and films like Sony/Netflix’s KPop: Demon Hunters breaking records. Even established franchises such as Game of Thrones are hiring anime-style animators, like Gennedy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Primal), to create spin-offs that attract anime fans. Considering Illumination and Nintendo recently created an anime sequence for Star Fox themselves, it raises the question: why not a full anime movie or series?
Casting Glenn Powell, the star of Top Gun: Maverick, as the voice of Fox McCloud suggests Nintendo has exciting plans for the character and the Star Fox series – and there’s even talk of a new game! Seeing the fast-paced, aerial battles of Star Fox animated would be amazing, so hopefully, that’s where Nintendo is headed.
