DC’s Absolute Universe just added a character fans have long requested – and many thought they’d never see! Over the past year and a half, this series has offered fresh perspectives on well-known villains like Sinestro, Ra’s al Ghul, and the Joker. Now, DC is shaking things up with a surprising new addition in their April Fool’s Day special, MAD About DC. While not officially part of the main story, it’s a really fun treat for DC Comics enthusiasts.
DC Comics Finally Introduces Absolute Condiment King

One of the highlights of the comic MAD About DC #1 is a parody called “Absolute Cash-In” by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, which directly spoofs DC’s Absolute series. The story begins with a man rising from a pool of red liquid, describing the agonizing pain of being reborn. The source of his pain isn’t what you’d expect, though – he’s been bathing in sriracha! This man harbors a deep hatred for all sauces, stemming from a tragic past where his parents were killed in an accident involving a sauce truck. However, by completing this fiery bath, he’s finally confronted and overcome his fears.
Okay, so this guy, totally covered in sriracha, was begging this wizard to level him up and give him the power of all the sauces he used to be scared of! He actually felt the sauce power flowing into him and started calling himself the Absolute Condiment King. But the wizard’s magic was way too strong – the guy literally exploded into a bunch of ketchup and mustard! It was crazy. And get this – Absolute Batman showed up right as it happened, and he was just standing there, totally baffled, like, ‘How am I supposed to fight that?!’ It was the funniest thing ever.
This is Satire at its Absolute Best

Ever since the ‘Absolute’ universe started, fans have been joking about what the Condiment King would look like. Now, DC Comics has delivered, and they did it brilliantly! Though it’s a short story, just two pages long, it perfectly pokes fun at the extreme redesigns villains like Mr. Freeze and Despero have received in this universe. It also cleverly satirizes how seriously some of these villains take themselves. While many expected to see Condiment King in the main ‘Absolute’ storyline, this approach was exactly what it needed.
Let’s be honest, Condiment King is a silly character, and he wouldn’t really fit into the main Absolute Batman series. However, he’s ideal for poking fun at the Absolute line itself and how it presents its villains. Some readers might not find the parody particularly clever, but I always enjoy seeing Condiment King, even as a brief appearance. If you haven’t read MAD About DC #1 yet, I recommend it – you won’t want to miss this amusing satire.
