The Soul Society’s Future

Fans of Bleach have more to look forward to this year than just the continuation of the main story! In addition to the anime’s return this summer, a new novel called Bleach: The High School Warfare will explore a fun alternate universe. Originally a joke for April Fool’s Day, the story reimagines Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends as regular high school students, swapping battles with Hollows for typical school life drama. The novel, titled “Don’t Bleach My Fist,” comes out in Japan on June 4th, and while there are no plans for an anime adaptation yet, anything is possible!
The climax of the Blood War arc promises a direct confrontation between Ichigo and his friends and the main villain, Yhwach. When the anime left off, Yhwach had absorbed the Soul King’s power, giving him the ability to alter reality. Even with this immense power, the Soul Reapers will fight to defeat him in the coming battle. While the anime will continue this year, the original manga is complete and won’t be receiving new chapters.
So far, the author of Bleach, Tite Kubo, hasn’t announced any plans to continue Ichigo Kurosaki’s story. A special manga chapter, Bleach: No Breaths From Hell, was released in 2021 and suggested what might happen next in the Soul Society. Although it ended on a cliffhanger, teasing a possible return of a known enemy to the Soul Reapers, Kubo hasn’t indicated he’s working on new chapters. It’s possible the manga could return sometime after the Blood War arc concludes.
