Netflix’s One Piece Star Teases Luffy & Vivi’s Relationship in Season 3

The live-action adaptation of One Piece introduced significant changes when its second season premiered on Netflix last month. The actress playing Princess Vivi hints at how her relationship with Monkey D. Luffy will evolve in the upcoming season. Season two saw Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hats, finally begin their journey into the Grand Line, where they battled the dangerous assassins of Baroque Works on several islands. These events are building towards a larger conflict centered around the kingdom of Alabasta.

Charithra Chandran joins the main cast as Miss Wednesday, who is eventually revealed to be Princess Vivi of Alabasta. Chandran recently told Collider that her character’s relationship with Luffy will deepen in the upcoming third season, building on the connections she’s made with the Straw Hat crew. She explained, “Vivi does have an impact on him, and we’ll see even more of that in Season 3…”

Netflix’s One Piece Star Teases Luffy & Vivi Changes in Season 3

When discussing Luffy and Vivi’s connection, the show’s creator, Chandran, explained that she and Iñaki Godoy (who plays Luffy) often talk about their relationship. She emphasized how special it is, noting that both characters are leaders with important responsibilities. Chandran highlighted that Vivi is one of the few people who truly affects Luffy, describing him as someone with a kind heart, like Paddington Bear. She also hinted that Vivi will continue to influence Luffy in the upcoming season, with moments showcasing that impact.

Chandran noted that the character often leads others but rarely takes direction himself. However, Vivi does have an impact on him, and Season 3 will showcase more of these instances. The key moment illustrating her influence appears in Season 2. He also discussed how Vivi herself is evolving through her journey with the Straw Hats, and hinted that this relationship will continue to develop in the upcoming season.

Vivi Is Going to Change Much More in Netflix’s One Piece Season 3

Vivi’s reluctance to accept help from the Straw Hats wasn’t due to a lack of faith in them, explained Chandran. It stemmed from her difficulty with opening up and letting people in. Having become very guarded while dealing with Baroque Works, she hadn’t fully recognized how much the Straw Hats cared for her and were willing to do for her. This is evident in Episode 8, where she questions their offer of help, prompting Nami to point out that she should have known better, setting up a storyline that continues into Season 3.

I’m still waiting to hear when the third season of One Piece will come out, but filming for the next episodes is definitely underway. From what I understand, this season will finish the Vivi arc and cover the Alabasta saga, with lots of exciting things happening for Luffy and the crew. It’ll be interesting to see how the live-action series continues to evolve and what changes they make to the story.
