‘Dune: Part Three’ Teaser Unveiled as 70MM IMAX Tickets Go on Sale

I’m so hyped for Dune: Part Three – it feels like the biggest movie event of the year! The film is coming out in December, and even though it’s still months away, the buzz is already incredible. They dropped the first teaser weeks ago, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come with both familiar and new faces. And now, to celebrate tickets going on sale for some IMAX theaters, they’ve released another new teaser! I can’t wait!

The initial trailer for the film was intentionally mysterious, simply showing clips from the movie and giving fans a first look at the project. This new IMAX 70mm trailer also doesn’t reveal much about the story, although it’s based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune: Messiah, so viewers familiar with the book won’t be completely in the dark. However, we do get some fresh looks at the characters and quick glimpses of exciting action scenes, giving a sense of the grand scale of Part Three and encouraging people to see it in IMAX 70mm.

Beyond the action on screen, the release of Dune: Part Three – and whether it will be shown in IMAX – is creating some competition with Avengers: Doomsday. Both movies are currently scheduled to come out on the same day. This means some viewers will have to choose between them, and Doomsday won’t be able to premiere in IMAX theaters across the US on its opening weekend.

The simultaneous release of Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday isn’t unique. Last year, Oppenheimer and Barbie opened on the same day, creating a huge buzz because the films were so different. While Barbie ultimately earned more – over $1.4 billion globally – Oppenheimer also performed very well, grossing $975 million and winning several Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The upcoming movie release is particularly interesting because it’s the first Avengers film since the huge success of Avengers: Endgame. Since Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t performed quite as strongly at the box office, even though recent films still generally receive good reviews. Their earnings haven’t reached the same heights as they did before Endgame.

If Dune: Part Three is a bigger success in theaters, it could signal that audiences are losing interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially forcing Marvel Studios to rethink its future strategy.
