This month, PlayStation Plus members can look forward to Lords of the Fallen as the featured game. It’s an action role-playing game released in 2023, inspired by the challenging ‘Souls-like’ genre.
The game was good when it first came out, but it’s gotten a lot better thanks to several large updates. Now, CI Games has released another significant update, perfectly timed with the game’s arrival on PlayStation Plus.
The update is mostly focused on co-op, making enhancements to the game when playing with a pal.
Okay, so playing co-op just got way better! Now, as the second player, I can actually do a ton more stuff. I’m not just tagging along anymore – I can upgrade my gear, hit up the shops, and even start boss fights myself. It’s a huge improvement!
In Non-Shared Progression mode, the host can now decide if the guest player has complete control or limited access, offering greater customization options.
Matchmaking has also been made more simple, and the patch also introduces some bug fixes.
Here are the full patch notes:
Shared Progression
We’ve updated Shared Progression Co-op based on player feedback, giving guest players more flexibility so you can all work together seamlessly to defeat the darkness.
Your fellow Lampbearer can now perform the following actions, previously restricted to the host:
- Upgrade equipment (i.e. Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
- Socket upgrade items
- Interact with Vendor NPCs
- Use Chrysalis Rebirth
- Rest and warp between Vestiges
- Plant Vestige seeds
- Begin boss battles
- Skip cutscenes
Non-Shared Progression
So, when I’m inviting a friend to play co-op with the new Non-Shared Progression system, I can now decide how much they can do. I can give them full access to everything, or limit their abilities – it’s up to me! It’s cool to be able to customize their experience like that.
Limited Privileges
Guests can perform the following actions:
- Use Chrysalis Rebirth
- Rest at Vestiges
- Socket upgrade items
- Upgrade equipment (i.e. Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
- Interact with Vendor NPCs
Full Privileges

Improved Matchmaking & Session Flow
Joining forces with another Lampbearer is now simpler and more reliable.
To begin a co-op session:
- Visit any Vestige and access the Multiplayer menu
- Set a password and share it with your friend
- Ensure both players have the same progression settings selected
For matchmaking, simply leave the password field empty.
