The manga series Chainsaw Man ended in March, and unfortunately, its conclusion followed a frustrating pattern seen in many newer shows – one that I hope can be avoided in the future. Chainsaw Man is definitely one of the most popular recent shonen series, like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen. While the story started strong in its first part, the quality dipped somewhat as it neared the end.
A common complaint about the ending of Chainsaw Man – and to some degree, other popular manga like Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, and Demon Slayer – is that the story felt rushed. These series may have tried too hard to move faster than older shonen manga, and would have benefited from a more balanced pace instead of quickly wrapping up important plot points.
Chainsaw Man Is Being Criticized for Rushing to the Finish Line

The ending of the Chainsaw Man manga took a surprising turn with the timeline, which benefited some characters but left others feeling unresolved. Many readers were left with unanswered questions, feeling the story could have been expanded beyond its 232 chapters, especially considering its rich backstory and popularity. Popular long-running shonen manga like Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece – which all exceeded 600 chapters (with One Piece now over 1,000 and still ongoing) – demonstrate the potential for extended storytelling in the genre.
While Chainsaw Man didn’t necessarily need a drastically extended story, a longer run could have addressed some common criticisms. Many fans online are calling the ending “abrupt,” and a more detailed wrap-up would likely have prevented that feeling. Some are hoping for a continuation of the manga to resolve things, but currently, the series feels incomplete. Unfortunately, Chainsaw Man isn’t alone – several recent popular manga have also suffered from rushed pacing and unsatisfying endings.
Chainsaw Man Is the Latest New-Gen Manga to Face This Ending Criticism

I’ve been noticing a lot of similar reactions to the ending of Chainsaw Man as there were with Jujutsu Kaisen. Even though Jujutsu Kaisen had a really solid run of 271 chapters, the ending felt a little incomplete – it didn’t really tie up all the loose ends that had been introduced. A lot of fans were left feeling like the story could have gone on longer, explored more. It feels like Chainsaw Man had that same potential for a more expansive build-up to the finale, but it didn’t quite reach it.
As a manga fan, I was really blown away by how Demon Slayer wrapped things up – it felt like a truly strong conclusion! But it also got me thinking… it felt like there was so much more author Koyoharu Gotouge could have done with that world and those characters if she’d wanted to. It’s a weird feeling, because even smaller series run into this. Take Kaiju No. 8, for example. It had an amazing premise, but at only 129 chapters, it felt like the story was rushed, and a lot of fans were left wanting more from it.
Good storytelling relies on finding the right pace and knowing when to conclude a story. But many recent manga seem to be ending too soon, and this doesn’t just weaken the endings themselves. It also prevents these series from building a lasting impact like the most iconic anime. We need more series that are willing to run for a long time, especially when they have rich worlds and plenty of potential for continued development.
These New-Gen Manga Endings Prove We Need More Long-Running Series

While it’s not inherently negative that new manga are moving faster, I hope creators stop rushing to end stories. A good story can take its time and explore everything it needs to, allowing characters and the world to develop fully. If that means a manga goes beyond 300 chapters, that’s fine. Not every series needs to be as long-running as One Piece, but Chainsaw Man shows us what we lose when stories are shorter and faster-paced. It’s not worth sacrificing depth and development, especially in popular series.
