The initial trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day showed a variety of villains, introduced new characters, and hinted at a strange transformation happening to Peter Parker, but didn’t clearly explain what the movie is about. Like many early trailers from Marvel Studios, the footage seems deliberately jumbled, making it hard to figure out the order of events and how they fit into the film’s likely two-hour runtime. However, by carefully analyzing the trailer, a possible sequence of events starts to become clear.
The new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, is definitely intended as a fresh beginning, something Tom Holland has also emphasized. This applies to both the character of Peter Parker and the entire Spider-Man film series, now with Destin Daniel Cretton taking over directing duties from Jon Watts.
Even though everything has been reset, some characters from the past still play a role. Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned both return, even though their characters don’t remember Peter Parker. This connection is particularly interesting because the story takes place four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Most people seem to like the trailer, but it’s also left a lot of viewers confused. It’s hard to figure out what’s really going on, and that’s not surprising – Marvel Studios often uses deceptive imagery to keep big plot points secret.
Even though the marketing has been a bit misleading, we can still get a general idea of what will happen in the movie when it comes out on July 31st.
Spider-Man Brand New Day Trailer Scenes In Chronological Order
Montage of Spider-Man Since No Way Home

The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day comic will likely start with a brief recap showing what happened between the events of No Way Home and the beginning of this new storyline.
It feels like the ideal moment for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to finally start narrating, catching the audience up on everything after his life changed.
The trailer suggests we’ll see fast-paced scenes of the hero swinging around the city and rescuing people, as well as quick glimpses of him fighting villains like Boomerang and Tarantula. This approach is similar to how The Fantastic Four: First Steps quickly introduced its team at the beginning of the story.

Another scene that might appear in the trailer is Peter visiting Aunt May’s grave, but it could also be saved for a more impactful emotional moment later in the movie. Whether or not it’s included now likely depends on how soon the film wants to address Peter’s grief.

The trailer also shows Peter watching a video of Ned and MJ’s first day at MIT.

This could also happen at the beginning of the story, illustrating how his life drastically changed once people forgot him.
Punisher and Mind-Controlled Tank

It feels like Brand New Day is finally focusing on Spider-Man’s current adventures. The trailer features him pursuing a runaway tank causing destruction, and also shows a tense interaction with the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), hinting at a shared past. Tom Holland has even suggested this unusual pairing might be his favorite part of the movie.
After that, the situation quickly gets worse, as Spider-Man attempts to stop a tank rampaging through New York City and endangering people.
The film captures a familiar, energetic street-level bustle that we haven’t seen much of in recent Marvel Spider-Man movies, similar to the exciting opening scene of 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The trailer takes a surprising turn when it suggests the tank was actually controlled by an elderly woman using some kind of mind control. This influence then spreads to other soldiers who appear to be part of a Department of Damage Control team.

The new footage feels like a direct continuation of the previous story, but it raises more questions than it answers. The trailer doesn’t explain where the tank came from or who’s really in control of everything.
Spider-Man Meeting William Metzger

Since the trailer’s captions refer to Tramell Tillman’s character as “Bill,” he’s probably portraying William Metzger, an activist who opposes mutants.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bill seems to be in charge of the Department of Damage Control, an organization viewers have seen featured in No Way Home, Ms. Marvel, and Wonder Man.
The trailer shows him encountering Spider-Man and delivering a stark warning: “We’re dealing with a threat beyond our control, one we can’t even perceive.”
It would be best to hold this meeting soon after Spider-Man’s encounter with the tank and after he saw someone suddenly jump minds – a new ability he’d just observed.
Jean Grey Scenes

I’m really intrigued by Sadie Sink’s part in Brand New Day, but it’s still super unclear what it is! We only got a quick glimpse of her in the trailer – it looked like she was tied to a chair, and then another shot of someone who seems to be her, wearing a hoodie with their hands up. Fans are already speculating, but honestly, it’s all a bit mysterious right now.
Stranger Things fans will have to wait until next time to actually see the young star’s face.

It would fit the story well to introduce her character when Spider-Man first encounters the main threat. However, because her scenes in the trailer don’t give us much to go on, it’s currently impossible to know what role she’ll play.
Peter Looks Back on His Letter to MJ

This might seem like a quick shift in the story, but it begins a new series of events involving Peter reconnecting with Ned and MJ. We first see him with an old letter – one he wrote a long time ago, intending to finally tell MJ how he felt and try to build a normal life with her.
Of course, Peter decided against it, choosing to keep his old friends out of harm’s way.

In the recent installment, viewers see Peter using a phone while observing Ned enter a cafe. Ned is wearing a hoodie, and a small bouquet of flowers is visible nearby – a detail that becomes significant in the following scene.
Peter Visits MJ and Ned’s Apartment

A prominent scene in the trailer shows a party at MJ and Ned’s apartment. MJ has a new boyfriend, played by Eman Esfandi, known for his role in Ahsoka, and Peter looks uncomfortable watching them.
It turns out the flowers we saw earlier were a housewarming gift, and they’re from Peter – their new neighbor!

Okay, so putting the pieces together, it really seems like Ned and MJ finished up at MIT after No Way Home and decided to come back to New York City after graduating. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it!
It’s understandable that Peter is still at Empire State University while his friends have already finished college – he had to earn his GED and begin his education later than they did.
Peter Gains Organic Webs

It logically follows that Peter’s transformation begins immediately after the party. He’s depicted sweaty and struggling to stay upright, still wearing the same clothes he had on when he was with Ned and MJ.
I guess this happened right after he left the party, probably stumbling back to his room. It’s hard to picture it happening before the party, so that must be it.

In Brand New Day, Peter is transforming, and part of that change involves growing organic webs. The trailer shows him waking up tangled in these webs and falling from his window as he tries to get a handle on his developing, spider-like abilities.
Peter Visits Bruce Banner

It’s hard to say exactly how the movie will unfold, but it makes sense that the scene where the mutation happens would be followed by Peter asking Bruce Banner about DNA mutations after class. There might be other scenes in between, but that order feels right.
The trailer only showed Bruce once, which is notable considering it’s been confirmed he’ll be portrayed as an angry Hulk in Brand New Day.
Peter Fights the Hand in Prison

It’s unclear how The Hand plays a role in Brand New Day, and when it happens. Aside from some visual similarities, the movie doesn’t really explain why The Hand is involved or why they’re targeting Peter Parker.

The prison’s interior and exterior feel connected, almost like they flow together as one continuous space.

As a Spider-Man fan, I always noticed something cool about this scene. Peter’s swinging around using webs that he makes himself, not the gadgets he builds. That little detail tells me this moment happens a bit further into the movie, after he’s rediscovered his natural web-slinging ability.
Spider-Man vs. Scorpion

We’ll learn more as more trailers are released, but so far, Michael Mando’s return as Scorpion in the MCU was surprisingly revealed in the first trailer.
If Mac Gargan escapes from prison in the movie, it would fit logically if it happened immediately after the scene showing the large hole in the prison wall.
Spider-Man and MJ on the Rooftop

The rooftop scene with Spider-Man and MJ was placed at the end because it’s the only other scene that takes place at night, and it ties in thematically with the fight against the Scorpion.
Placing this interaction later in the film makes sense, considering MJ’s apartment displays photos of Spider-Man, suggesting she’s interested in him. Doctor Strange’s spell only made people forget Peter Parker’s identity, so MJ might still remember Spider-Man, even if she doesn’t fully understand why.
The moment Peter finally talks to MJ while wearing the Spider-Man suit is definitely one of the most eagerly awaited scenes in the Brand New Day storyline.
