The anime Dandadan has quickly become a fan favorite, thanks to both its original manga and successful first two seasons. With a third season already in the works from Science SARU, the series is also celebrating its fifth anniversary in a big way. In addition to the ongoing manga, renowned horror artist Junji Ito has contributed his own interpretation of the Dandadan universe, and a new live-action adaptation is planned, offering a fresh perspective on the characters Momo and Okarun.
Exciting news for fans of Dandadan! A live-action stage play is coming to Japan this August and September, with performances scheduled for Tokyo and Osaka. While the cast hasn’t been revealed yet, the director has: Imato Ito, who previously worked on the stage play for Mashle: Magic & Muscles, will be bringing Dandadan to life. And as a special treat, renowned horror artist Junji Ito has created his own artwork inspired by the series, which you can check out below!

Dandadan Enters The Live-Action World
When the live-action stage play adaptation of Dandadan was announced, creator Yukinobu Tatsumi shared his excitement. He expressed his gratitude, saying he never expected the manga to be adapted for the stage and credited the fans for making it possible. Tatsumi also praised the talented staff and cast, and encouraged everyone to come see the show and enjoy the experience.
At the end of the first season of the Dandadan anime, Okarun and Momo made several new friends through their adventures with the supernatural and aliens. They even ended up piloting a giant robot to fight a massive monster! The season finale also introduced a new alien character who could complicate the blossoming romance between the two leads. Although fans will have to wait until 2027 for the next season, it’s clear this exciting supernatural action series has a lot more story to tell.
Many popular action manga series have recently finished or are nearing their conclusion, but Dandadan is still releasing new chapters. The creator, Yukinobu Tatsumi, hasn’t suggested it will end soon, and after only five years, we can likely expect to follow Okarun and Momo’s story for a while longer. It’s uncertain if Dandadan will get a live-action adaptation like Netflix’s One Piece, but it seems possible in the future.
