10 Years Later, One of The Best Fantasy Series of All Time Finally Released Its Anime

The Spring 2026 anime season promises to be fantastic, featuring both highly anticipated sequels and brand new shows. One standout is Witch Hat Atelier, which faced production delays and was originally scheduled to premiere last year. The wait proved worthwhile, as the first two episodes have generated significant excitement and confirmed its status as one of the year’s most eagerly awaited anime. The series has received widespread praise from critics and fans for its excellent adaptation and beautiful animation. It’s based on a popular fantasy manga by Kamone Shirahama, which has been published in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine since July 2016.

This manga is known for its beautiful artwork and captivating story. After a decade since its release, the anime adaptation is now available on Crunchyroll. The first two episodes premiered on April 6th, 2026, with both subtitled and dubbed options. New episodes will be added every Monday at 7:00 A.M. Pacific Time. While the anime is also streaming on Netflix, it’s currently limited to select Asian countries.

Even after only two episodes, Witch Hat Atelier is already being hailed as one of the year’s best anime. While the first episodes introduce the story and Coco’s path to becoming a witch, much of the manga remains to be adapted. Because the source material is so lengthy and complex, the anime has made some necessary adjustments, like cutting certain scenes, to fit the story into the available time.

Fans have pointed out changes between the different versions of the story, and Hiroaki Kojima, a producer at BUG Films, has acknowledged them. The story takes place in a lovely fantasy world and centers around Coco, a talented seamstress who helps at her mother’s shop. Though she’s skilled at making clothes, Coco dreams of becoming a witch – something that’s only possible if you’re born with magical ability.

Coco always dreamed of becoming a witch, and her wish started to come true when a mysterious witch named Qifrey visited her mother’s shop. Through a series of discoveries, Coco learned she had the potential to become a witch and began training at Qifrey’s Atelier. But she soon realized the path ahead would be much more difficult and dangerous than she expected.
