Daredevil Season 2’s Death Of 11 Year MCU Vet Addressed By Vincent D’Onofrio & Born Again EPs

WARNING: This article includes MAJOR spoilers from Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe just got a lot more dangerous.

Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) in Daredevil: Born Again, recently spoke with ScreenRant about the shocking events of episode 4 – specifically, the brutal attack on his wife, which strongly suggests she didn’t survive. D’Onofrio hinted that this tragedy will significantly fuel Kingpin’s anger and desire for revenge. He explained that every attempt to challenge his power will only make him more determined to eliminate his opponents completely.

Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, explained that Vanessa’s death has profoundly affected his character, leaving him more vulnerable and less rational than ever before. He hinted that this emotional state will be a major part of the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again season. D’Onofrio also revealed that the consequences of her death won’t be resolved by the end of the season, but will instead continue to impact Kingpin at the start of season three.

Crowley discussed the reaction to episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 with showrunner Dario Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat. While actor Vincent D’Onofrio described Vanessa’s death as having lasting consequences, the creative team offered a different perspective. When asked about the fate of Ayelet Zurer’s character, who first appeared in the original Netflix Daredevil series, Amanat simply responded, “Or is it?”

Following a serious injury to a key character and a shift towards increased brutality from Mayor Fisk, writer Scardapane hinted that Fisk’s remaining humanity has been lost. She explained, “There are no limits anymore. The one thing that made him relatable is gone, so anything can happen.” Writer Amanat added that she was worried while reading the scene, wondering how Fisk would change. She stated, “I was shocked by what happened and curious about who he would become. I think the direction we’re taking the story will surprise everyone.”

Scardapane believes viewers might anticipate anger, while Amanat agreed, adding that they expect it to be wild. However, Amanat emphasized that the latest installment offers a unique approach, praising Vincent’s contribution and encouraging everyone to watch it. Scardapane concluded by teasing episode five as something truly original and unexpected.

Filming is currently happening on season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, which is expected to premiere in 2027. Photos from the set suggest a reunion of the Defenders team, with Krysten Ritter reprising her role as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter returning as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones back as Danny Rand. This will be the first time these characters have appeared together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since their original Netflix series.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 drop on Tuesdays on Disney+.
