The hammer Mjolnir, famously wielded by Thor, is one of Marvel’s most powerful weapons. It allows its user to control storms and deliver incredibly strong attacks. What makes Mjolnir special is that it can only be lifted by those considered worthy. While almost no one besides Thor can lift it, heroes like Captain America and Jane Foster have proven themselves capable. Surprisingly, a number of villains have also managed to pick up Mjolnir and use its power, despite not being worthy.
It’s no surprise that most supervillains aren’t deserving of wielding Mjolnir – they’ll do whatever it takes to get what they want, including lying, stealing, and even killing. As a result, they’ve never truly earned the right to lift the hammer, usually only succeeding through trickery or by finding loopholes. However, despite not being worthy, these villains have still managed to tap into the power of Thor, the God of Thunder.
7) Awesome Android

The Awesome Android was a powerful robot built by the villain Mad Thinker to battle heroes like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. The Mad Thinker later gave the Android the ability to copy the powers of anyone he fought. During a battle with Thor, the Android copied Thor’s honorable nature, which surprisingly allowed him to lift the magical hammer Mjolnir. This act of copying Thor’s goodness actually turned the Android into a hero, and he immediately helped Thor defeat the Mad Thinker. Now calling himself “Andy,” the android has reformed and works as a legal assistant for She-Hulk. Though originally created as a simple, evil robot, gaining the ability to wield Mjolnir ultimately gave him a chance to become a good guy.
6) Ulik

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always found Ulik to be one of Thor’s most imposing villains. He’s the strongest of the Cave Trolls and constantly trying to prove he’s more powerful than the God of Thunder himself. What’s really interesting is how he tries to take over Asgard – he and his fellow trolls steal Mjolnir through some kind of vortex, hoping to make a copy. There’s this awesome scene where Ulik casually holds both the original and the fake Mjolnir, comparing them! The weirdest part? We never find out how he’s even able to lift Thor’s hammer, considering the enchantment! But it doesn’t last long, because Thor quickly calls Mjolnir back to his hand, snatching it right out of Ulik’s grasp.
5) Red Hulk

Normally, only those deemed worthy can lift the hammer Mjolnir because of its immense weight. But in space, weight doesn’t matter, meaning anyone could theoretically wield it. Red Hulk exploited this during a fight with Thor. He latched onto Mjolnir as it moved, using its momentum to pull both himself and Thor into space. With the lack of gravity and his own considerable strength, Red Hulk was able to attack Thor with the hammer multiple times, and even briefly appeared to channel lightning through it. This demonstrated that Red Hulk’s greatest strength isn’t just his power, but his clever battle tactics and strategic thinking.
4) Loki

Loki, Thor’s adopted brother and frequent enemy, has constantly tried to steal Mjolnir and gain its power. Interestingly, the one time he actually lifted the hammer, it wasn’t through his own doing. During the AXIS event, Scarlet Witch accidentally switched the morals of heroes and villains. This made Loki a hero worthy of wielding Mjolnir, while Thor became a villain. Once the spell was reversed and they returned to normal, Loki couldn’t lift the hammer again. However, as Loki has evolved into a more complex anti-hero, he’s managed to lift Mjolnir on several other occasions, though the reasons why remain unclear.
3) Ultimate Magneto

Even though Mjolnir is incredibly powerful, it’s still made of metal. In the Ultimate Universe, Magneto is far more ruthless than the version most people know. Driven insane by the death of his children, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, he attacked the entire world. He manipulated the magical metal Mjolnir is made of, allowing him to bypass the hammer’s usual requirement of worthiness and take control of it. Using Mjolnir, Magneto flipped the Earth’s magnetic field, resulting in millions of deaths. Although he didn’t fight with it like a traditional weapon, he still used its power to cause one of the worst disasters in the Ultimate Universe.
2) Hydra Captain America

Everyone knows Captain America is worthy of lifting the hammer Mjolnir. But even after it was revealed he’d secretly joined Hydra, people were surprised he could still lift it. Some heroes saw this as a reason to support his new, evil leadership. It turned out this wasn’t the real Captain America at all – he was a villain from another universe, and the real Captain America was actually imprisoned. Hydra had used a powerful artifact called the Cosmic Cube to give their evil Captain America the power to wield Mjolnir. Once the real Captain America broke free, he used the hammer itself to defeat his imposter.
1) Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is notorious as Marvel’s greatest villain, so it’s incredibly surprising that he was ever able to lift Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. But that’s exactly what happened when Mjolnir ended up in Hell, where Doctor Doom was also imprisoned. Being in the demonic realm weakened the magical enchantments on the hammer, allowing even Doom to wield it. He used its power to escape Hell and return to Earth. As soon as he was back on Earth, the hammer’s spell reactivated, and he lost the ability to lift it.
