Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the season 4 finale of Will Trent, episode 14, “A Flag in the Mud.” The action-packed episode may see a core character leave the show. While ABC doesn’t have long-running procedural dramas like CBS’s NCIS or NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, Will Trent, starring Ramón Rodríguez, is proving to be a hit and one of the network’s most popular shows. The series, based on Karin Slaughter’s novels, has made some changes from the books to broaden its appeal, and those changes seem to be working well.
It’s been a dramatic year for Wilbur. It began with significant personal events – the death of his long-time rival, James Ulster, and the unexpected wedding of Angie and Seth after they announced they were expecting a baby at the end of last season’s Will Trent. Now, as the season nears its end, the episodes are getting increasingly intense, like the stressful hostage situation in “A Flag in the Mud,” which deeply affects Angie.
Angie’s Confessed Fears Amid Her Pregnancy Paves The Way For Her Will Trent Exit
A series of unfortunate coincidences lands Wilbur, Nico, Angie, and Seth in the middle of a hospital hostage crisis connected to the Ormewod and Wilks murder investigation in “Flag in the Mud.” While the team has faced tough situations before, this one is especially difficult because Angie is pregnant and Seth’s life is at risk. Seeing Angie, a seasoned professional known for her bravery and willingness to bend the rules, express fear is deeply unsettling.
It’s completely natural that she’s feeling more anxious, especially since she’s expecting a baby. As the arrival of their child gets closer in season 4 of Will Trent, she and Seth are starting to truly grasp what it means to be responsible for another life. While she’s always cared about safety, becoming a mother is a uniquely different experience.
Angie is considering her options after a difficult day, and it’s likely she’ll decide to leave the police force to prioritize her child. She’s even open to working a desk job, which is a welcome change from the usual storyline where pregnant characters fight against it.
What Angie’s Exit Means For Will Trent
If Angie leaves the police force, it would be a first for the show Will Trent, as she’s been with the series since it began in 2023 and has been key to its stories. Beyond her role as a police officer, her relationship with Wilbur has been a central part of the show, even after the series had her character marry someone else.
Compared to her involvement in the original ABC project, Angie has a smaller role in the books. Sometimes she’s absent for a while, only reappearing when the story needs her. The show can follow this pattern by temporarily reducing her screen time and bringing her back later. This will allow Will Trent to explore other storylines, such as introducing the character Sara Linton.
