Reshoots: Good or bad?
Many movie fans worry when they learn a film had reshoots, often seeing it as a sign of trouble. However, for companies like Marvel, reshoots are now a normal part of making a movie. They film, edit, review the footage, and then reshoot scenes – not because something went wrong, but to make the film even better.
I recently read an interview with Tom Holland in GQ, and he shed some light on the reshoots for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He described them as more of a bonus – “the icing on the cake,” as he put it – rather than essential fixes. He was actually filming those extra scenes in London and seemed to have a great time, but he genuinely doesn’t think they were strictly needed to finish the movie. So, if you’re wondering if the reshoots were a sign of trouble, Holland seems to be saying everything was pretty solid all along.
His exact quote:
I’m confident the core of what we’ve created is strong – the movie already works really well. We’re now just refining it with some extra touches, like adding more humor and developing a villain storyline in a fresh and exciting way. It’s about enhancing what’s already great, not fixing anything.

We still don’t know who the main villain or storyline will be. While Sony and Marvel have revealed some classic Spider-Man villains – like Marvin Jones III as Tombstone and Michael Mando returning as Scorpion from Spider-Man: Homecoming – it’s uncertain if they’ll be central to the plot. The first trailer for Brand New Day showed Boomerang and members of the Hand, but it hasn’t been confirmed whether they’ll play major roles.
Okay, so I’m really starting to think Sadie Sink’s character is central to the big bad plot of the movie, especially since she looks like she’s being held captive in that Brand New Day trailer. And honestly? You can never have too much humor in a Spider-Man film! It’s the one thing I always thought Sam Raimi’s older Spider-Man movies could have used a little more of. Those films were fantastic and really captured the spirit of the comics, but sometimes Spider-Man’s witty banter with the villains felt a bit lacking.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to open in theaters on July 31.
Marvel Actors Who Took Home Props From Set

1. Chris Evans
It’s not much of a shock that Chris Evans owns one of Captain America’s shields. He played Steve Rogers so well that it makes sense he’d want to keep a piece of the iconic costume. Evans revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he was given both the shield and the cowl, but he’s hoping to get the complete suit. Apparently, Chris Hemsworth already has the full Captain America outfit, and Evans would love to have one too.

2. Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. famously got his hands on a huge piece of movie memorabilia from the set of Avengers. He jokingly asked for the massive, 30-foot-tall ‘A’ prop from the film – while they were filming in England – hoping to display it in his Venice office. To his surprise, the producers actually agreed, proving just how much influence he had while playing Tony Stark, according to an interview with BBC Radio 5.

3. Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt really wanted to keep his Star-Lord jacket after filming finished because he hoped to wear it when visiting young fans in the hospital. He explained that if the movie was popular enough to brighten a sick child’s day, he’d happily visit them as his character. Pratt followed through on this promise after Guardians of the Galaxy became a hit, and has since visited patients in costume – once even with Chris Evans dressed as Captain America!

4. Chris Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth is one of the few actors who got to keep his costume after filming, and he jokingly said it helps him stay in character even when he’s at home with his family. He told the Belfast Telegraph that he wears the Thor costume and asks his family to call him by his character’s name, making it easier to stay in role. Plus, Hemsworth has taken a hammer or two home from the Marvel sets as well! He shared with Jimmy Kimmel that the hammer seems to move around the house on its own. He’ll put it on the mantelpiece, but his wife often puts it away in a cupboard.

5. Tom Hiddleston
Though his character, Loki, is known for being a trickster, Tom Hiddleston hasn’t actually taken any props from the Thor movies. But even villains deserve a keepsake! Hiddleston received Loki’s scarf as a birthday gift from the production team – the one Loki wears with his suit and overcoat in the Thor trailer. It’s a practical souvenir, he says, and something he can actually wear in public without raising eyebrows.

6. Cate Blanchett
It might be surprising, but Cate Blanchett, who played Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, also took home her own version of Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir! She shared the story during an interview with Stephen Colbert, jokingly claiming the film’s shutdown in Australia wasn’t due to Covid-19, but because she stole the prop. She even demonstrated how easily she could lift it, showing it off to Colbert on camera.

7. Sebastian Stan
Sebastian Stan, known for playing Bucky Barnes in Marvel films, jokingly revealed he ended up with a huge supply of personal lubricant after filming. Because his character had a bionic arm, a lot of lubricant was needed to help him get into the costume each day. After filming wrapped, he was allowed to take all the leftover product home with him, admitting on Jimmy Kimmel Live (as reported by ComicBook) that he now has a “lifetime supply” of KY Jelly in his closet.

8. Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds casually took a Deadpool costume home with him after filming one day. He admits he wasn’t supposed to keep it, but doesn’t regret it at all. Reynolds joked that after waiting ten years to play the character, he was definitely leaving with the suit, as reported by MSN. Interestingly, when he played Green Lantern, he couldn’t do the same thing, as much of that costume was created with computer-generated imagery.

9. Chadwick Boseman
After filming Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman revealed he kept a special souvenir: T’Challa’s Kimoyo beads. Although they didn’t have any high-tech features like in the movie, Boseman wore them as a personal reminder of his experience working on the film. He even admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live (as reported by ComicBook) that he was wearing them at the time! Given how uncomfortable his Black Panther costume was, it makes sense he chose a bracelet-sized keepsake rather than the entire suit.

10. Tom Holland
Tom Holland, best known for playing Spider-Man, has a habit of taking souvenirs from movie sets. He admitted on BBC Radio 1 that his house is full of props, including a set of web shooters from his Spider-Man films – a secret Marvel now knows! He even has Tony Stark’s glasses. Holland also gets inventive with his keepsakes; according to GQ, he once covered a poker table with a blue screen he took from the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
